The credit crunch can only do Celtic a favour with most of the English teams now looking harder at deals before shelling out funny money for average players.

The problem Celtic has first and foremost is location.

The SPL doesnt attract interest from the big money sponsors, thus we will always be playing second fiddle to the big leagues.

Therefore the TV and sponsorship money we get isn't even as good as what some lower league English teams get.

The business model successfully implemented by P.L at CP is worthy of applause as it keeps us solvent and on a championship winning keel even without getting Champions League money.

But thats as far as they can take it without getting into serious financial strife like the huns are in. We dont want to go there.

So, with that in mind, when it comes to looking at replacing players or making strategic buys for wanting positions like left back for instance, we need to appreciate that firstly we have to attract players to a pish league, a cold country and a lower wage level.

Not so easy to pull off.

You must be off yer head....40,000 in Austria....some teams will not even spend that much on the weekly wages on the whole team yet alone one player

They dont want to spend the money simple as. Rangers are in a * shocking condition yet we are only 2 points infront of them :56: signing unknown youngsters does * all for us in the present and there could be another embarassment in the CL on the horizon if they dont get the money out in the summer at least

Looking at the big picture, we're actually not doing so well at all. We're tied for 3rd with * St Mirren and Aberdeen in goals allowed... and Rangers have passed us up in goals scored too (51 to 49).
Our defense needs to unfuck themselves badly.

Those figures are the biggest pile of crap. Look at liverpool id say theres probaly 3 players who'd earn that money. And austria i doubt theres 1 player in that whole league who's on that money.

If this thread was slating the board with similar misinformation it would be closed straight away

There is only 1 reason for the lack of activity in the transfer market.

THE BOARD ARE LOOKING TO BEAT THE HUNS BY SPENDING THE MINIMUM AMOUNT REQUIRED EVERY SEASON.

Thing is it almost bit them on the * last season :52:

Yes they are 40k in austria. That is just a ridiculus comment. it would be more like 10k id say at most.

Chelsea and Man utd are the only teams that would have that as an average wage.

like it said in a previous post in 2006 the average epl player got 13k. i doubt in a couple of years that wages have gone up 600%

We all know theres a huge gulf in wages but to make claims like that is silly:50:

The EPL wage bill doubled between 2006 & 2008 and you can be guaranteed that it increased again this season plus 60-100% could be added to an average wage in bonuses. Its not far off it at all.

Even an average wage of 40k, which it easily is, would be a problem for Celtic

I'd certainly agree for your Austria comment; Pogatetz / Stranzl / Manninger don't even play in the Austrian national league's, but if THEY are on 40k a week (and they are the most recognised members of the squad), i'd be staggered. As for the Austrian League itself, that would surely be the HIGHEST paid player as opposed to any form of average? Even then, it would come as a big surprise.
