At the end of the day, the Green Brigade are great for certain things but fooball and politics do not mix. Does the club no favours.

Bang on. people can wear the poppy if they choose, just dont think it should be forced on a football club.

surely that line alone destroys what meagre credibility he has regarding this story!

The Green Brigade are completely entitled to their protest. But should have done so in the manner they did last year ... and walked out and held their banner and showed their numbers elsewhere. Anyone that was of a mind to join them could have followed them into the car park or wherever. I witnessed people from my section - NorthWest Lower - leaving to join them last year and daresay they would have done so again.

What the Green Brigade ended up doing was presenting themselves as a united front with at best/worst that whole corner of the ground - or the whole support itself. But whereas their excellent banners in the past, showing team support and paying tribute to former players etc can be said to echo the sentiments of everyone - they cannot believe they are representing everyone's view on this.

They have achieved their goal in that their point has been made - and commented on in the press etc. Their released statement has adequately set out their argument - i think their banner definitely did not.

There may be some who read this and think " yeah but why should these guys go the carpark and miss the game ? ... why should they miss nine goals ?" ... well, my response would be that firstly they were sending those who run the club and make decisions on behalf of the club. And the way to make them notice you not be there. Nothing scares them more than empty seats at Celtic Park. Hanging a sign upside down and singing doesnt make anyone resign.

The Green Brigade shouldnt have to miss games ... but it would show the club their deep-rooted displeasure. I understand there is to be a boycott of the St. Mirren game. i would like to know how many of the GB will actually attend the game - just not under the guise of the GB as we know it. I think (and kind of hope) the urge to support the team may outweigh the want to express a political opinion.

Ultimately i go back to my original point - completely accept their right to air views. I would however suggest the way they did it and the content of what they said was flawed beyond the spelling mistake.

They can create great atmosphere, but it should stay that way. Politics shouldn't be associated with football at all.

Regarding the banner - first thing that most of us noticed was spelling mistake. Unfortunately it's not the first time they did that.

Spelling your club's name wrongly can distract from original message they wanted to send.

Anyway, I don't think poppies should be worn on our tops nor sold in Celtic shops. Politics shouldn't be forced into football like that.

Then again, when it comes to that, Green Brigade are ready to speak on behalf of all fans which is quite annoying. I don't agree with their motives for this banner, but I agree with message they send which is no poppies on our shirts.

Many people are brought up to support Celtic FC, not British army, republican movement, left-wing politics and all the other stuff that circulates on stands of Parkhead week in, week out. Some people just want to support their club.

I would buy and wear a poppy, my papa fought in WW2 in Italy he wore one before he passed away. I don`t agree with the banner on saturday but I also understand why other feel this way.

On the tv this morning there was a discussion about John Snow and why he doesn`t wear one.

Also I noticed yesterday on the Formula One programme that Eddie Jordan also never wore one and fellow presenter David Coulthard and Jake Humphrey did.

These like everyone else are entitled to wear or not wear a poppy.

My papa fought in WW2 for freedom from the * Regime, all this for freedom of choice and opinion. So whether you wear a poppy or not is an example of this freedom of choice; so those who choose not to should not be subject to hassle or crticism or vice-versa.

The fact remains that the Green Brigade were wrong to protest. They've distracted attention from Rangers' fans thuggery in Valencia, the protest against the SFA and have brought bad press to the club.
