The Vatican has said that Pope John Paul II's condition is very serious hours after suffering heart failure.
Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said in a statement that yesterday afternoon the Pope experienced septic shock and heart failure after developing a urinary tract infection.
He received the Viaticum, the Catholics' last rites for the sick and dying, the spokesman said.
"This morning the condition of the Holy Father is very serious,'' the statement said.
The 84-year-old Pontiff's health declined sharply yesterday, when he developed a high fever brought on by a urinary tract infection.
The Pontiff was attended to by the Vatican medical team, and provided with "all the appropriate therapeutic provisions and cardio-respiratory assistance,'' the statement said.
The Pope's wish to remain at the Vatican and not be taken to hospital was respected, Navarro-Valls said.
The statement confirmed previous reports that the Pope had received the sacrament for the sick and dying yesterday evening.

i dont see whats wrong way mentioning the pope!its only one thread! on other celtic sites ive been on they have loadsa threads about him&there saying all the same things!
-
I think a thread is justified on the site but let's stick to the thread and not whether it should or shouldn't be discussed.
Wish him all the best of health although I fear his days, maybe hours are numbered. -

I'll be keeping him in my prayers. Wish him all the best. -
Thats fair enough. the point of my antagonism was to show that the threads that are allowed onto the site are selective.
What the * has JP got to do with Celtic..... nothing.
What the * has Irish Politics got to do with Celtic..... nothing.
It funny how some are cceptable over others.
I am all for freedom of speech...period. But on a site such as this if we are to be seen to be fair then all threads should be allowed or only Celtic Related threads. You cant pick and choose at the whims of a particular persons views or whims. -

The pope has been through so much, he cant quite his job its 4 life, hes been ill for years and still has his faith and gives other people that faith. you must b a sad git not 2 feel a bit of sympathy 4 him??? jp might be linked 2 celtic with the catholic connection, does it really * you off that u hav 2 complain bout it, am sure hes happy on his death bed knowing that people like u dont give a * about him and feel so unsympathetic to him and his long suffering. i agree with the other kind thoughtful hoops in here and hes in my prayers. *
