So how would they make the likes of Messi and Ronaldo look ordinary?

The guy deserves respect, any player or fan from that era would vouch for him as a goat.

They were the greatest players to ever Grace a football pitch. Maradona in his pomp getting the protection that todays superstars get would take running riot to a whole new level, ditto Pele.

I feel like I’ve already said this.

Messi is a truly gifted football player and seems a humble chap too. Ronaldo is also a fantastic player.

Put simply, and for the last time, Pele and Maradona were better then and would be even better now.

Well fair enough. Not really sure the evidence backs it up though.

It's hilarious in all honesty. Even Maradona ran around looking like he ate a bag och Doritos or two every evening. Fantastic skilfull ballers but not even close to the fitness levels of the modern footballer.

It's pointless saying who was the greatest of all time. Football is different to what it was 10 years ago, 50 years ago it was a completely different sport. Modern players are far fitter, sports science and medicine helping them back from injury and well protected , and it's impossible to say how they well they would play in times where their clubs didn't make sure they had the right diet and hatchet men would try and break their legs weekly. You also can't tell if an historic player would last today getting themselves fit and cope with the pace of today's game.
Also quality players were spread about clubs previously. Now the best players are usually grouped together with other elite players so that can help them win more trophies.

Just appreciate quality football across various times. Just appreciate Pele as a legend of the sport, rather than debating if he is better than Messi.

Can't see him lasting too long.

So sad, hope his final days are as good as it can be with his family.

Heartbreaking, I think we will see an announcement in the next few days, maybe even sooner, to say he has passed, if the video I've seen is anything to go by that is. So sad. He's one we all thought would live forever.

I hate the whole process of ageing. Something very uncomfortable in a seeing athletes in their prime and then the old person struggling for a breath they inevitably become.

There’s a quote from Socrates I really love,

“No man has the right to be an * in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”

It’s painfully accurate. A lot of us here will be past prime physically, but it’s no excuse not to maintain an exercise regime and look after your body.

    GOAT

A much as i liked Maradona, i personally think Pele was the best ever player to grace football.

Watching old videos, his movement, skill on the ball was utterly outstanding

Gutted seeing people like this...but we all gotta go sometime.

Plus that overhead kick in Escape To Victory :)

Rest easy sir. The word legend is used way to often. Never more an appropriate word used.
