I don't see any difference from last season tbh he hasn't kicked on at all granted the injury obviously played a massive part. I was a bit surprised we signed him on a permanent tbh he just tends to be there not really doing much of anything.

Easy to throw that number out, but how many games has he started?

Just think it’s trophy day, * is the point in pure berating a player. It’s strange.

    * that claim he doesn’t “do anything”, last season he was one of the best pressing midfielders in the CL. He’s been a sub all season so haven’t checked. But he’s better than you are gonna find out there for the same price.

Similar to Engels in he's not really suited to the shape the manager wants to play.

Would use him as back up to McGregor in the 6 position as he's decent physically and knows the role from his time with Portugal u21s but is never an 8 either as he doesn't offer enough going forwards.

The whole midfield needs addressed this summer although given last summer I don't know if I trust Rodgers to be the man to do it.

He's started more than McCowan who, for me, has made a much bigger impact.

I agree about berating people after trophy day though

McCowan has a much lower ceiling, we don’t expect much so when we get a good performance we are all buzzing.

Bernardo has a much higher ceiling, rightly. So when he doesn’t produce, it’s meltdown.

I don't really see that though. What's the higher ceiling based on?

Unless you mean the ceiling of expectation rather than actual ability, then I understand what you mean.

I think if Bernardo was making the same impact off the bench as what McCowan often makes then people would be praising him, regardless of expectation.

But he rarely has for the past 6 months or so. He hasn't scored since November. 1 assist this year. I know he was injured for a bit, but that's 23 appearances since he last scored. I appreciate goal contributions aren't everything for a centre mid, but he's just not making much of an impact outside of that either.

I hope he comes good, like any player, but im really not seeing it right now and personally think he's extremely lucky that he'll likely start the cup final, cause for me that should be McCowans jersey all day long.

Rodgers likes him though so hopefully that's a good sign for future and not a blind spot.

Poor game yesterday, annoying the amount of silly needless fouls he gave away, just plays into their timewasting hands.
    Little or no creativity.

Adam Idah has backed Paulo Bernardo to fill Reo Hatate's boots in this weekend's Scottish Cup Final.

Crocked Hatate will miss Saturday's Hampden showpiece after a collision with Pape Habib Gueye in last week's 5-1 rout at Pittodrie.

Bernardo was given the nod ahead of Luke McCowan on Trophy Day as the four-in-a-row champions wrapped up the Premiership campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to St Mirren.

The ex-Benfica starlet had a major role to play in last year's dramatic win over Rangers as Idah tapped home the Portuguese playmaker's parried shot to become the Cup Final hero

And Idah believes Bernardo is more than capable of stepping in for classy Hatate as Brendan Rodgers' side chase a Treble.

He said: "Yes. Paulo's been brilliant. I've said it to anyone who asks me, Paulo's one of the best players in the squad

    He's technically unbelievable.

"You see it in training week in, week out. He's a fantastic player but at the same time, no matter who's behind me or who's there, I think I've got as much confidence in everyone

"We've got such a fantastic squad.

"Anyone that's playing on the park, I trust and I believe they can create stuff.

As said, he needs to impact games more.

He has the attributes. Injury hasn't helped this season but I forget we have him at times.

Think he can feel slightly hard done by also. Start of the season he had some really good performances then got dropped for engels who at the time wasn’t performing. Think it might have been before the huns game he had a motm performance then dropped against them and dropped for games in Europe. I do agree that since he hasn’t impacted as much as I’d have thought but feel when he was getting a run of games early he was class

I think they're very different players TBH. Who has the higher ceiling depends on what you mean.

McCowan has better technique and is better at moving us forward; Bernardo has better physicality and is good at helping us maintain control in midfield. He's very like Forrest in his awareness and ability to take the ball under pressure and not lose it and in his workrate.

So if we're playing against a low block domestically, McCowan is the better player and even has the higher ceiling IMHO; but if you are talking about the CL, I prefer Bernardo. And it's a higher level, so in that sense, Bernardo has the higher ceiling.

Yeh I don’t think the players were being compared in terms of style of play, more just the level they can play at. Bernardo has the ability to play at a higher level than McCowan.

I also used ceilings to say that we are happy with McCowan since he is playing better than we expected, people are disappointed because he’s not reaching his heights… but his expectations are far higher than McCowan’s.
