Patrick Roberts!

Roberts is going to be stunning this season.

 

Roberts has had a pretty frustrating pre-season but going by end of last season, he's a different class and will be one of first names on BR's teamsheet IMO.

 

Either that or he's not wanting him playing in physical games like that right before the qualifiers.

 

hope this is the case because he is a cracking player especially for his age

 

At the moment Dembele starts from the bench IMO. Unless he can play LW. Roberts and Griff can't be dropped after last season.

 

I still think it should be a clean slate for everyone, Rodgers and his staff need to make their mind up from what they see in pre-season. Ultimately it's up to every player to prove themselves good enough for a start.

 

People read far too much into pre-season games where we're just trying to get the team match fit

 

Am I right in thinking that Roberts is left footed? If so, wouldn't he be the obvious choice to be our left winger this season? I know he likes to cut inside from the right to get a shot away, but he could switch with the right winger during games for that, which also adds a bit of unpredictability to our attacks.

 

It would limit his style of play massively, he likes to get inside the channels. Get in and support the striker. He's perfect for the right side of a 433.

Moving him to the left just won't get the best out of him.

I imagine you'll see our wingers swapping wings during games this season a lot right enough.

I'd love to see him tested on the left during a friendly at least, he should have a decent cross on him and he has the burst of pace to get the space to get the cross in too.

 

Putting Roberts on the left wing just completely nullifies his attacking potential. He's all about cutting in and scoring. He's shown he's very good at doing it.

 

Patrick Roberts is the only thing near a top class attacker we have in the team and people want him dropped? People like griff and Rogic are very good players but Patrick Roberts is top top class. He needs to start.

 

I wouldnt move him, but to suggest it would nullify his threat is nonsense. Maybe if anything he would be less of a goalscoring threat. If he can dribble past players and put in good crosses into the box then he still has a threat.
It would make more sense to do this if we had a aerial threat or a poacher in there to get on the end of crosses. But I wouldnt change something that works.
