Patrick Roberts!

Discussion in 'Ex Players' started by AJ Styles, Jan 24, 2016.

  1. What a player. You can just tell when he's gonna rinse someone.

  2. I would like to think it is possible that Celtic will have him on a couple more years loan if we can't agree a deal.

Pat has not come close to his potential yet and he needs a massive and special positioned club like Celtic to allow him to reach it.
As good as he is, it is unlikely he will get regular game time at Man City in the PL (let alone Europe) for a couple of years, and by then he may like a lot of outstanding prospects have gone backwards.

Pat is only just starting out his career potential but he has a bit of the Jinky about him.
Fantastic to watch soccer being played like that in Green and White Hoops.

  6. I know I am probably clutching at straws but I am still holding out some hope that a way can be found for him to still be at Celtic next season. One thing I do feel sure about is that Manchester City will likely be spending heavily and signing quite a few new players this summer and as good as Roberts is I just do not see how he will see any significant first team action at all next season if he goes back there and stays.

  7. Named in the SPL team of the week.

  8. He's a wee tart. :giggle1:

  9. Well in Pat :50:

    Mon the Hoops :ynwacelti

  10. Really hope he is here next season

  11. PATRICK Roberts marked his 50th appearance for Celtic in impressive style, producing a superb performance to help the Hoops record a comfortable 2-0 win over Glasgow rivals Rangers last Sunday in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.

The winger was named in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI for the Hampden showdown and proved to be too hot to handle for the opposition throughout the match, also having to withstand several dubious challenges early in the contest.

Now the Hoops can look forward to a Scottish Cup final clash against Aberdeen on May 27, when they will have the chance to complete a domestic treble for the first time since 2001.

And Roberts, who is nearing the end of an 18-month loan spell with Celtic from Manchester City, has been an influential player for the Hoops since his arrival in February 2016. From his first brace against Hearts last April, to his most recent goal against Ross County earlier this month, the 20-year-old has been an outstanding contributor across all competitions.

However, the season is far from over, with the champions aiming to maintain their unbeaten domestic run which currently stands at 41 games ahead of this Saturday’s Glasgow derby at Ibrox, while there is also the prospect of the treble.

And Roberts spoke exclusively to this week’s Celtic View, reflecting on his milestone 50th appearance for the Hoops.

Congratulations on making your 50th appearance for Celtic. How does it feel?

Thanks! It was a nice way for me to mark my 50th appearance in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup. It was a very proud moment for me. My Mum and Dad were at the game too so it was nice for them to see us win this time! For me, to hit that milestone has been brilliant. Obviously, my aim when I came to Celtic was to make as many appearances as possible, but to play the part that I’ve played in such a historical season for the club, it couldn’t be any better. I’m especially pleased to have contributed in the way that I have, not only with the goals but the assists too - that’s why I was brought in. I think with all the quality players that we have in the team, goals have come in abundance, but that was always my aim when I came here. I’m proud of what I’ve contributed because I came here with the mentality to win. I wanted to score goals and win trophies, and I’ve done that. It’s been a really big plus for me as I start out in my career, as I’m still a young boy, and it will stand me in good stead. I’ve enjoyed every minute on and off the pitch. It’s been brilliant.

We’ve got another derby match against Rangers this Saturday. What’s it like to take part in those games?

It’s a surreal occasion. We’ve played two at Hampden, two at Celtic Park and one at Ibrox and I’d say every occasion has been a testing one. The first game against them this season was probably our best and most dominant performance, but you can’t get better than a derby. They’re tough and you don’t know what is going to happen on the day because form goes out of the window and it comes down to whoever is best for that 90 minutes. You can see that last year in the semi-final we weren’t on top of our game but this year was completely different. We’ve been completely dominant and we have to be that way going into every game. They’ll have the advantage with it being at Ibrox this time, but it’s down to us to keep our head and play our own game. We’ll get our own fans up for it and try to get the best result that we can. We did that on New Year’s Eve and we rose to the occasion brilliantly. It was even better that we came away with the result too. We treat it like any other game and try not to let it affect us, because as soon as you let it get to you, it can have a negative effect. You have to keep the same mentality and go into the game like you’re facing any other team. Tensions can rise and things can get out of hand but it’s so important to keep a cool head and play the football that you want to play. The derby games are favourites of the fans too and we have to take that same passion that the fans display and put it out on the pitch. We have to do it for them and give them pride around the city.

I don't know how we wouldn't be able to afford him. I'd be willing to break our transfer record to get him in, no brainier. His potential resale value would double our investment without doubt. Possible injuries aside, he's CL quality through and through.

  12. Breaking the bank to get him to stay will make Celtic money.
The merchandise value alone will bring in at least half the fee in one or two seasons.
Then there is the Champions league benefits.
Go on PL and Brendan and Desmond.
    Persuade him to stay.

  13. He and KT also played a massive part in getting us to the group stages this year.
Hoping he stays and i reckon Brendan will make it happen if theres a chance.

  14. I've checked a lot of the stories about his transfer and basically the fee was undisclosed . Everything from 2m rising to 8m
Up to 3/4 rising to 12m . So I think we could afford him . Maybe we could just take over the the sell on clause to Fulham . City would get their money back and not miss him . Really hope he stays him and KT have a beautiful bromance

  15. Just a wee bit for now , a long way to go to equal Jinky

  16. FIFA confrim Celtic are under no obligation to release PADDY, therefore i fully expect him (injuries permitting) to be with us at Hampden :brendy:

  17. It be what man city want. If they want him to play in tournament or play in cup final

  18. They have said he is our player and its upto us when the UCL draw came out i am sure they are still the same, we legally hold his temp registration until 30th June 2017 therefore it will be OUR decision not theirs.
