They built a special ice rink for an exhibition game with the Boston Bruins, so a football game there is not to far fetched. I would think that Gillette stadium seats more, plus being home to the New England Revolution. I believe that the Boston Breakers (women's team) plays at Nickerson Field (Boston University).

Post links please, especially if they're definitely confirming dates and place :50:

Two world-class Scottish soccer teams will play at Fenway Park [map] this summer, sources told the Herald.

Glasgow rivals Rangers Football Club and the Celtic Football Club of the Scottish Premier League will compete in an exhibition game at the storied park on July 21.

The Boston Red Sox [team stats] declined to comment. But team officials have scheduled a community meeting before tonight’s Texas Rangers game to give residents a head’s up on the plan.

Patrick B. Moscaritolo, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the economic impact of the game could reach $35 million.

“This is a huge event for Boston,” he said. “These are very well-known teams with European fans that travel just like the way Red Sox Nation shows up at Sox games throughout the United States.”

The event is another way for principal team owner John Henry to extract money from the 98-year-old park and put the venue on a global stage.

“They are extending the Red Sox and Fenway’s brand to an international audience,” said Moscaritolo.

In January, the Sox hosted the National Hockey League’s Winter Classic. The Boston Bruins [team stats] defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime for the soldout event. TThis summer, Aerosmith and the J. Geils Band will perform at Fenway on Saturday, Aug.14.

Doesnt matter about the score though, jsut it would make more sense to play a "friendly" against one of these teams than against them. Surely be as much money in a fixture like that but we will see.

Its a sign of the times - lets just look forward to the game - and give them the beating they truly deserve which will be a precursor of things to come in season 2010 -11!

    Hail Hail

If this goes ahead I don't think it's a wise move at all for several reasons
    - OF games are not and should never be friendlies
    - both teams are crap just now so won't be a great advert for Scottish Football
    - as we've to spend the summer gelling a new together again a meaningless "friendly" against them isn't ideal preparation imo
    - money decision over footballing decision once again
    - possible damage to reputation if there is trouble at the game

The only single positive is the North American supporters getting to see an OF game although as it's a "friendly" it wouldn't have the same atmosphere anyway

The Hun can't be trusted to travel to Bolton, so why should we bring them to a civilised country and risk our fantastic reputation in the United States?

Friendly with the Huns - a demented, nightmarish, perversion. The Devil is loose in Salem alright.

    It's no a friendly.

No doubt they will call it a "challenge match". If they have any sense in terms of selling tickets and getting people to watch the game.

We are not a package deal. Bad enough we are being whored out together to sponsors, but this is a step too far. This turns one of footballs biggest rivalries into a joke. There is nothing friendly about the Celtic Rangers rivalry.

I cannot believe that this is even being considered.

As for potential trouble, whether these North American huns have been away from Scotland for a generation or not, we have to remember that every hun has bigotry irreversibly stuck into their brain, put a group of them together and expecting anything less than the worst is incredibly nieve.

There's nothing friendly about an old firm match

Sir Wattie will just tell his players to snap a few legs and the daily ranger will come out the next day "The kings tatics where outstanding , tactical mastermind!"

But on a more positive note we may get a ref thats not a rangers fan

Fenway park is the best stadium of any sport in America in my opinion. Once this is confirmed officially. I'll book my tickets :icon_mrgreen:

They'll probably design some sort of cup for the match and make a real big deal out of it since this is the first time the OF has ever met each other outside of Scotland.

It seems like some people here are against the idea of these two sides meeting each other to raise some money. Yes, Rangers will make a lot of money off of this deal. But so will we! More money = (hopefully) more players. What's wrong with that?

From: Celtic to launch credit card for US fans - Scotland on Sunday

There's no feckin way that Rangers have anywhere close to 1 million fans in North America. If this is true, we outnumber them by WAY MORE than 10 to 1.

To the mods: Would you consider putting a sticky on this so that those who are going can keep in touch with each other about travel plans, tickets, and meet-ups? :bbpd:
