i doubt it will be played with the same intensity as it is here. So its all a bit pointless.

Why play a friendly with them anyway ?

I think it's a great idea! It's worth one shot at least to see how it goes and on the plus side you will be able to tune into america's dumbest criminals or one of the cop shows and watch the hun supporters at their crime-tastic best! :50:

It won't be a good advert for Scottish Football if we get a few hundred bawbags heading over and indulging in the sort of behaviour we are all too familiar with at Old Firm games in this country.

Don't know if its been mentioned but could they not create a cup? Play for it once a year or every two years in the states, like the charity shield or in rugby scotland vs england calcutta cup i.e it would not be a friendly. It would generate more finance for both teams through tv deals etc... could also boost all merchandise sales in the US. We need all the money we can get.

p.s im not peter lawwell :icon_mrgreen:

lol yup, hubby is a cop so if we go he'll be packing! :84:

Here's a thought: Could it be that both teams are testing the waters for it to one day be 'just a game' and not a sectarian face-off with the bottom feeders? The Canada bhoys will have to answer this one, but when you take the huns out of their Orange-washed neighbourhoods and plant them in another country for a couple of generations, eventually do they see the silliness of it all and start acting human like everyone else?

Its a valid point Shelley but its rotten to the core and i dont see it been any different wherever its played ,there is thousands of Scots over there and wether they support us or them and travelling fans would ensure that the hatred in this game would still remain.

The worst thing that could ever happen to the old firm game

Are we trying to water down one of the fiercest rivalries in world football, by taking it out of Glasgow and making it a friendly.... ???

The old firm rivalry is one of the most prominant reasons the old firm are still as strong as they are while playing in a such a pitiful footballing country and league.

This cannot happen!

This may just be a west thing but it didn't stop them turning up to support UTD.

Not getting at our faithful support here, but I didn’t see any other supporters in Seattle who came over directly for the match; anyone who had the hoops on was American, Irish or Irish decent. I can’t see it being any different.

We all go on about how we are well supported all over the world, I beg to differ, even in Ireland where we are meant to have the backing of the country you will find that the truth is more like ' yes I support Celtic as a second team just after Liverpool' or what ever other EPL teams they are following.

I think there are around 5 thousand Celtic fans that make the trip every other week to see us from Ireland and fair play to them but to add to that, there are a further 100 Thousand making a trip over to England every other week to see there team from Ireland.

As much as People outside Scotland see the old firm game as a sectarian battle I am sure if the game came to there doorstep they would not lower themselves the standards of the people in Scotland (that really sounds bad) just because they are at an old firm match. To add to that, I can’t see bus loads of scumbags chartering a flight to see an old firm match 1000 of miles away when they get to see at least 4 a year in their own backyard.

The people who go to the game will probably come away from it wondering what all the fuss is about.
It was just 2 teams knocking lumps out of each other’
They couldn’t pass a ball between them’
Our teams are better than this’
No wonder the Scottish league is poor

I could go on, so maybe not a good idea in the long run

This isn't really that much of a shock. Football may not be their first sport and they may have gone to see Utd as they are one of the best in Europe. The same reason a lot of people would have watched the Chicago Bulls here for example to see Michael Jordan but they would not really be big fans of basketball.

I tend to agree wetghril.

Living in Toronto and speaking from my own personal experiance. I know a number of huns and come in contact with a number of huns over the years (* I work in the same office as Kris Boyds cousin and my wife's boss is a hun) I have never had any issues with them. Just some good natured chriping. Sure I've taken my share of "abuse" but nothing that I would deem hateful.

For those of you gents worried about behaviour, though, lets face it. There are far more Celtic fans in North America than there are Rangers fans. It is just a simple fact. We have to be outnumbering them by at least 10 to 1. The few huns who do show up for the match will be stunned into silence when they realise how outnumbered they really are here. I really think that aside from maybe a very small amount of minor altercations, this match will be without incident. Don't expect an American repeat of the 1979-80 Scottish Cup melee.

latest word is that the game will be played on july 23rd at fenway park. fenway park is one of the oldest and most sacred baseball stadiums in america. it only seats 40,000 and no hun in their right mind would ever go into that stadium let alone that city. it will be like a game at parkhead with no huns allowed. if they'd like to show up and start trouble, the police in boston will lock them up in a heartbeat. that said, they'll lock up any tims getting out of line as well.
