Why don't we just fork out another 0.2 million? 1.5 mill should do it.

Celtic offered 800.000 pounds, that`s why Brann returned to Bergen.

Celtic told to up offer for Norwegian star Erik Huseklepp as Brann Bergen play hardball
    By Keith Jackson

CELTIC target Erik Huseklepp was said to be devastated last night after Brann Bergen bosses blocked his dream move to Parkhead.
The 26-year-old attacker had been hoping to fly to Glasgow yesterday to put pen to paper on a contract with he Hoops only to be told the transfer was off after talks between the clubs broke down. Now Huseklepp has demanded discussions with his club today in a bid to force them into accepting Celtic's offer.
The Norwegians initially wanted a £1million fee plus £500,000 in add-ons but changed that to £2m. Celtic responded with a £600,000 offer which was rejected by Brann.
Huseklepp will meet with his club's officials today to beg for his release and speaking exclusively to Record Sport last night the player's father, Ingvald, said: "When Erik signed a new contract Brann promised him that if any club came in for him from outside Norway they would help him make the move. But it seems now the situation is different."
However, an official of the Norwegian club said : "It was a gentlemen's agreement. There was nothing in writing but we shook hands and that handshake expired last summer."
Meanwhile, Celtic have offered a trial to Irish club Sporting Fingal's 24-year-old midfielder Shaun Williams.

Huseklepps agent, Stig Lillejord, has verified that Huseklepp just had an agreement about the transfer vindow summer 2010. It would be looked upon as if he had 6 months left of the contract then, and the price would reflect that. Now the new 3 year contract has kicked in, and Brann has every right to get as much as they can for him. 800.000 pounds is a disgrace. Brann will have more left for keeping him in the club.

This is Celtic your talking about when have we ever just went and paid whatever the other club wants we always try to do deals . I also think that we offered that amount so the player knew we were keen to get a deal done and it puts the pressure on his club now as they have an unhappy player on their hands, so it will be a matter of time before he signs as no-one likes to have unhappy players on there books nevermind playing in the first team.

Brann isn`t that desperate. Brann will have to split 50-50 with investors on the sale of Huseklepp, 1 mill pounds is nothing then, due to the fact that they will have to spend money on a replacement. Huseklepp is a professional player and will have to deal with it. Brann will meanwhile work towards other clubs.

40 goals in 172 games in a league which is arguably worse than ours is a disgrace we can get someone else

Over here Brgn its being reported that our bid is in the region of £1.3 million but Brann are demanding £2 million, our bid reflects the gentlemans agreement set by player and club, apparently.

Seemingly Huseklepps was unaware the gentlemans agreement would be void at the turn of the year,he feels Brann are going back on their word..

If this drags out any longer, ditch the deal. Can't be fannying about all month trying to get one guy. Happens too often and we're left with our balls in a vice.
If it's not agreed by Monday then move on to other targets. I'm sure we could get another tall European target man for the same price who's just as effective

we cant just cave in every time a club wants big money for a player, Lawell has proven time and again that he negotiates excellant deals when it comes to buying players, unfortunately his tactics take a bit of time, ultimately we dont want the club going bankrupt so all costs need to be controlled.

Probably because Schechter doesn't want to come to Scotland in the first place.

That will be the case with most players we want to sign. It's not just a question of saying "OK, the club want X million for him, there's the cash, deal done." Most players we would want to play for us simply wouldn't want to play in the SPL, and many would not want to live in Scotland full stop.

He said we have shown the most interest but he would rather go to Germany/France/Italy etc.
