just after reading the miku thread and the hype that comes with it,does anybody believe we missed a trick that we did not retire the number after henrik larsson left.not sure i would like it retired but i hate to see it being wasted.

I said the exact same on another thread. IMO, the number should have been retired when Larsson departed. Or, after the Jimmy Johnstone Cup Final.
-
I think retiring numbers is a joke. Same as giving the no.12 to the fans. Absolutely pointless.

Nah I don't think it should've been retired but I do think it's a special historical number for Celtic and only a player worthy of it should wear it.

Give it to Samaras....

Its a Number thats all ..we have been lucky enough to have jinky & henrick wear it ...we could have had this debate after jinky retired if it was retired then Larsson wouldnt have worn it .
We should keep it going who knows another star may well wear it in a few years time :50: -

IMO it's a number and that's it. You could make a case for retiring any number from 1-11. For me if any number should have been retired at any time in our history it should be number 1 - we had a player die for the cause wearing it (assuming goalkeepers wore numbers in those days).
The point I'm making is - Henrik was, is and always will be a Celtic Legend but he's gone and it shouldn't matter who wears the number. The fact that they're wearing the hoops is a far greater honour than any number they can have on their shorts. -
Its a number...get over it, means nothing!!

Just a number for this bhoy.

Don't like the idea of retiring numbers for individual players, no matter how loyal or good.
-
Only a number, doesnt matter who wore it or wears it. More worse players have wore all the numbers than great ones.
If it was you could make a case for the number 8 to be retired too. Jinky, Dalglish and McStay probably our best players of the 60's, 70's and 80's and all our own products all made their starting debuts in it. -
Think people should earn it, not just be given it

I'm not a big fan of retiring numbers, it doesn't seem very organic in that it is generally a phenomenon seen in American sports. I know that it has spread to football and some big clubs have done it, Milan for example, but I don't really see the sense in it.
If a player dies prematurely then little things like his number not being reissued for the next season are nice touches, though.
Did Jinky ever actually wear the number seven on his back? I would've thought it was only ever on his shorts. -
give it to Tony Watt:icon_mrgreen:
Generally i dont like it when players have numbers over 30 -

No player is bigger than the club, we have seem many great players in the number 7 and i look forward to seeing many more.
