Been saying this for weeks… Surely there’s some talented experienced pros around Scandinavia etc?

Mix those kind of signings with some really talented project types and I think we would make progress in Europe.

I mentioned a few on the player suggestions thread, players who could come in and have an impact for a good few seasons.. all were on pre-contracts as well. Guys like Gijs Smal, Ryan Gauld, Bertrand Traore and Dennis Praet.

Have we blown out the Norwegian lad already?

    I agree with this.

We need to manage the squad and balance our signings.

If we want a next-level player (Tierney, VVD, Wanyama, Dembele, Edouard etc.) then the evidence and logic dictates we need to sign them young. That's well understood and few people will argue it.

The issue at Celtic is we seem to only be trying to do this and in my opinion, while there is an ambition to improve the squad, the strategy is so heavily imbalanced because this approach is also the most profitable with the lowest risk to profit (for the moment).

What @Liam Scales is saying is true but I think we need to, as a club and a support, stop looking at all our signings like this.

The reason we never get anywhere is because our next-level players that we spend time finding and developing are often in a team loaded with prospects or with a weak link that we just keep ignoring. There's always something.

You could unearth the next Messi, but if you've got Joe Hart in goals you'll win * all. You'll still make a fortune selling your Messi though, and frankly you've reduced your bottom line even more by sticking with Joe..

There's got to be a balance between ambitious prospects and ready-to-go players in their prime. I honestly think this idea of unearthing gems has become a bit of an illness at Celtic. We've made a fortune but failed continuously in Europe. We literally play at a high level in Europe every year and every year when we make silly mistakes and get embarrassed, I read on here that, "we've got the experience now, this won't happen again", until next September..

This transfer strategy is why, in my opinion.

I'd take this guy, seems a player who has obvious skill about him if Leipzig, Ajax and Bayern have all signed him as a teenager.

Only really started playing the last 2.5 year and done fairly well with him kicking on this season so far.

Could be like Palma for the right, a creative guy who will score goals. Has 24 goals and assists in 78 games for Rapid and Erzgebirge and they finished 16th, 5th and 6th so far not the best of teams in their Leagues.

Much like myself, your replies are too quick to be flippant. We post furiously (not angrily), let's own it.

My thoughts exactly. I feel we focus too much as fans on buying ready made players and not projects. Jota and CCV would have been seen as risks. I mean the term project. We label just about everyone who's linked a project.

Both things can be true. I think we got both Juranovic and Giakoumakis at the right time, both relative late bloomers. Giakoumakis wasn't even proven for a prolonged period and people questioned him.

Truth is people who are steady performers at smaller leagues for years without getting snapped up are unlikely to take us up levels. We need players on an upwards trajectory, whether that's late bloomers or younger players.

Rodgers said he was ill recently and only just rejoined training. I reckon he'll be one of the ones Rodgers has mentioned about not getting many minutes and looking to go out on loan for 2nd half of the season. Loan to hibs would be great for him

I miss the days when we could just go and sign Chris Sutton or John Hartson from the EPL. None of this * about with people we've never heard of and haven't a clue who they are

Really want this guy in. I think it’s underplayed how much we are missing an eliminator since Jota. Only players in our squad that go by a man are Yang and MJ and then are unreliable to say the least.

Rapid Vienna has not ruled out selling German winger Nicolas Kuhn, who has been linked with a move to Celtic during the transfer window. (Daily Record)
