    * it, give Shifty number 7 and The Thumb number 9. He wore 7 at Utd so he'll prob fancy it again regardless of its history here.

Your space bar suddenly break there?

I think the plan is for Commons to become the 'elder statesmen', problem is he's too good to keep off the pitch. He keeps scoring, Ciftci infront of him will help him there.

I'm heavily disappointed with the club and the striker situation, tbh. Vossen went to Burnley - Burnley! - while we opted for a guy whose only good season in his career so far was blighted with a series of behavioural disgraces, and who isn't anywhere near Vossen's level in general.

For the sake of what? Saving £1-1.5m?

There has to be some serious rethinking somewhere along the chain of leadership at our club.

It's actually worse when it hapoens during a transfer window like this, where we seem to have shown some small level of ambition in our other signings.

Have you watched Vossen on a consistent basis?

Maybe its an age thing? What are the age differences between the two?
I wasn't keen on him either but I felt the same about Griffiths and I quite like him now.
Maybe Deila really does see something in him?

Younger than Vossen, cheaper than Vossen, proven SPL scorer and more importantly......we are actually interested in ciftci.

Agreed. As I said, earlier - I'm not trying to be a whining *. However its just so un-inspiring. I can't believe this was Deila's first choice - no chance. Part of me feels his hand has been forced and he''l work with what he gets.

Hopefully it isn't our number one target but its shocking.

It does seem as if we're only rummaging through the bargain £1m buys bin. Rather than the £2.5-£3m buys you'd think we could buy.

Yeah, I suppose signing GMS and Armstrong were cheap uninspired signings too - coulda signed James McLean for nearly £2m instead of about £250k on GMS. Boyata is the cheap option too - could probably a got a nice defender for about £2.5m somewhere instead of paying only £1.5m like.....

Either have I, I have no idea if he fits into what Deila wants to do here. The fact he was available and we've showed no interest in persuing him would make me think no though.

Also think he must not be what he was when he was younger and showing a lot of promise. His agent also made a lot of noise about being available and Burnley was the only interest he could drum up in him.

I suspect he isn't what Football Manager made him out to be.

i can only hope that the reason we've gone for the cheap option is to hold some money back for signing mcgeady

£1.5m clearly isn't the cheap option for us. It's in the ballpark of what we usually sign on players.

He was our number one target, he's been linked since April.

I think he is a great signing. Don't see why people are so disappointed.

Since when was 1.5 million the cheap option, and cheap compared to what, a Burnley singing who have just got the best part of 100 million for being relegated, whom we may have shown no interest at all in

I hate when folk do this. Aye, you can buy from the same club and they can work. Aye, you can buy cheap and they'll work. Plus who advocated McLean?

Big difference between GMS/Armstrong and Ciftci though. Different positions and they're homegrown which helps. Not to mention Armstrong shows great promise and GMS is an entertaining, speedy winger that we needed.

Signing a striker is a totally different ball game, excuse the pun. You'd be happy with him leading the line in Europe, against the best of the best?

Our answers can't be found in buying repeatedly from United.

I still cringe when I remember that Craig Gordon thread from last year
The boy is signing for us so its time to get behind him and as long as he is wearing the hoops I will do that

No but you can get good players for Europe in Scotland. The likes of Scott McDonald, Scott Brown, Barry Robson and Paul Hartley served as well enough, as did Mark Wilson, Gary Caldwell...

I'd be happy with Ciftci leading the line in Europe. He has all the attributes needed to be able to do so, from there it's up to us to make it so he can do it well.

1-2 million is no longer the cheap option for us.....its what we can afford.

Nah lets just blame the board again......ffs.

as someone has already pointed out, our net spent once this goes through will be around the 400k mark.

you really think that was the budget for this season? there is more money for ronny to spend than 400k. if not, then its a shocking state of affairs at our club. given that the money isnt being put towards bringing in a better quality striker, i can only imagine its being kept for someone else.

i very much doubt ciftci was our number one target. no doubt he has always been on a list of names, but at the top....no. if he was, then again its a shocking state of affairs at our club
