Ciftci is miles away from Pukki.

Honestly I've rated this guy highly for a while and don't hide the fact that I want us to sign him and expect him to be a success here if we do. I can't think of any strikers around the same price range who fit into our system as well as I belive he will.

Good at holding the ball up, bringing other attackers into play, strong, aggresive, skillful for a player of his size and not slow either. Not only that but he would be linking up with 2 players who he combined well with in GMS and Armstrong.

So we don't like him? Big deal. Fans will be giddy with happiness if he scores a couple in europe, or kisses the badge and runs into the crowd....or just says he hates the huns. It's football and it's a fickle business.

So are we getting him? This thread is 77 pages long and the last I heard, he was off to England.

Ciftci, Griffiths and Scepovic is a pretty underwhelming strike force. Suppose it's a sign of the times though.

    Griffiths is 5ft 8 and Ciftci is 6ft 1? :97::smiley-laughing002:

I'd also argue on him being just as strong. Two completely different players so I don't know how you'd even begin to compare them, tbh.

9 days till Stjarnan.. If were going to sign him, just sign him now.. Let him get settled and play some part in the easy rounds.

I'm sure gms and Armstrong will have been asked what he's like. Just get the deal done.

If Dundee Utd wish to reject all of our bids out of some fantasist sense of pride, then by all means Tangerines....carry on.

If Mr. Ciftci is SO insistent that he wishes to play for Celtic, then we will sign him on a pre-contract come January.

Surely the thought of losing your top player to a rival team for free is worse than losing him to a rival team and having x amount of cash in their (or Jackie's) back pocket? Wasn't that the case with GMS, Mr. Thompson?

I wouldn't either. I think 1.5 million is a fair price for Ciftci anymore and its not. Dundee utd must think they have bigger balls than Pistol Pete :smiley-laughing002:

Possibly, but Griffiths' record speaks for itself.

Griffiths has 51 goals and 27 assists in 103 Scottish Premiership games. Ciftci has 25 goals and 17 assists from 68 games.

Griffiths' record in Prem, LC and SC: 73 goals & 35 assists in 135 games.

Ciftci's record in same competitions: 33 goals & 21 assists in 82 games.

Overall record for Griffiths: 137 goals and 65 assists in 287 games (directly involved in 0.7 goals per game). Ciftci's is 42 goals and 23 assists in 153 games (0.4 per game).

Also interesting to note Ciftci had scored one league goal before coming to Dundee United. Griffiths had scored 93 before joining Celtic.

Yes, but developing under NEC Breda, the Dutch youth international squads and Turkish youth international squads lays better foundations than developing in the lower divisions of Scottish football with Livingston and Dundee.

It doesn't necessarily make you a better player, but it is worth considering.

He played a grand total of 2 games for the Dutch U-17's, in fairness:smiley-laughing002:

Though apparently that's because Guus Hiddink personally met with him to ask him to join him with the Turkish squad, which is a pretty good recommendation.

Don't think Hiddink ever asked Griffiths to swap allegiances from Scotland to Turkey either.

I suppose however at the end of the day he still ended up at Dundee United. Never managed to do anything with NAC or Portsmouth, didn't progress even into the Turkish U-21's.

Regardless it's all about what he is like as a player now, anyway.

I reckon we might just play hard ball and let his contract run down and offer a gms style deal in January. He'll not exactly have played a lot of football by then anyway when he gets a 10 game ban or whatever they throw at him..
If it wasn't for the ban I'd be more on getting him in right now, but we can afford to wait, if he's that set on coming..
