[No Link] Nadir Ciftci

33 goals in 82 games for United, not exactly impressive but he does have 21 assists, we have Griffiths to score domestic games and might make the step up in Europe, but we need to get someone that has experience in Europe.

 

When was the last time we signed someone with the pedigree to give us any assurances of performances in Europe though?
I genuinely can't remember us signing someone recently who had a good track record in the Europa League or CL.

33 goals and 21 assists in 82 games is quite good to be fair, considering he's playing for a side that isn't even 3rd best in the country and add to that, he has played a lot of games out wide or not as a striker..

 

DUNDEE UNITED have booted out a £900,000 bid from Celtic for star striker Nadir Ciftci.

Ronny Deila made his move six months after SunSport first revealed the Hoops’ interest in the Turkish forward.

Ciftci, who has an SFA charge hanging over him for allegedly biting Dundee’s Jim McAlister, has turned down a new deal at Tannadice.

United are open to selling the 23-year-old in this window if the price is right — but NOT to the champions.

And Middlesbrough are poised to step in with a concrete bid.

The Tannadice board took flak from their fans after flogging Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven to Celtic in January, so decided earlier this year they wouldn’t make the same mistake again.

Deila has been a long-time admirer of the ex-Portsmouth and NAC Breda hitman but it now looks unlikely he’ll land his man in this transfer window.

With Ciftci’s contract set to expire next summer, the Norwegian’s best plan would appear to be waiting until January before opening talks about a pre-contract and testing United’s resolve again then.

Meanwhile Genk admitted Celtic target Jelle Vossen is currently weighing up his options.

A club statement read: “We held a constructive discussion with Jelle about his future.

“The outcome is that Jelle will first examine concrete foreign offers and we will remain in discussions.”

 

The two most positive things I take form that are: 1) Middlesborough might well save us from ourselves and buy Ciftci before we do; 2) this might mean they drop any interest in Vossen.

On a different topic, note The Sun subtly trying to underestimate our chances of actually signing someone decent; saying Vossen has 'concrete foreign offers', when the original statement from Genk actually reads, 'a concrete foreign offer'. There's one offer, it seems very likely to be from us, and the knuckle-draggers at The Sun hate it.

I bet when we don't get vossen we panic and buy ciftci

 

Apparently it's burnley who are in talks with Vossen. I don't want ciftci and I don't see how he's an improvement on what we have. He's also guaranteed a couple suspensions at least a year and seems like a * of a guy. I know it's asking a lot but we need a striker who can make the difference in Europe, and I don't think Ciftci is the person to do that. Think he has scored 1 goal in open play in 2015.

Knew this was going to happen. All this talk of Hooper and Vossen and then BAM we sign Cifcti through the back door.

I believe it. I think he would be good for us. I am surprised at our apparent lack of interest in Vossen though.
