Our success rate with strikers from abroad isn't very good hence the reluctance , JVoH was probably the last one who was actually very good for us and since then we've spunked far too much on duds.

Ciftci is from abroad(ironically) and has done well in a mediocre team who constantly sell their better players. He is settled in Scotland and acclimatised , which most struggle with. I don't see the point in scouring Europe for a player who would enhance us whilst there is one here already. We need a different dimension up front , we need someone who can hold it up , link up with ability to take players on , he has everything our team is screaming out for.

With English clubs hunting him, would dundee utd sell him to celtic?

Id imagine they might get backlash from their fans for sellin to celtic. They'd also be puttin themselves in a position where they will have to play against ciftci next season.

Ciftci, career wise needs to celtic. Straight into the champions league, unlike the average english teams.

Worth a punt if the price is right (around £1 million) but for me although he does show glimpses of a good player he has never really set the SPFL alight.

We would need to get a rid of a few more strikers before we bring another "potentially" good player in.

He honestly does still remind me of a poor mans Diego Costa, possibly even with a bit more flair/skill to him than Costa.

As is common practise in the modern game, so much of the power rests with the player. If Ciftci is willing to knock back a move down south and make clear he wants to move to Celtic, would Dundee United risk keeping an unhappy player? I would doubt it. They will without doubt charge us a premium though, as you said their fans won't be happy.

People always liken players to players with a similar physical appearance , never ceases to amaze me. If he was black and 6ft 2 he would be" a poor mans balotelli " no doubt.

Stuart Armstrong talking up both Cifcti and Souttar. Do you reckon he's trying to plant the seed in everyone's mind? I.e, our fans, their fans, and the players themselves.

I don't like Ciftci's attitude but he could be a decent player for us if he can be molded, which I'm sure he is capable of. Souttar, also, a young Scot with potential talent.

    * it, aye, I'll take the pair of them.

Not really, his style is similar to him. Costa is a good bit bigger than him, it's the style of play. The hold up, the way he tries to run the channels, the fact he's a nasty *, the strength on the ball etc.

That's a good point. Who is the last foreign striker we have signed who has come in and did the business? As you say, JVOH was probably the last one who was actually a really good signing for us. And that how was long ago, and how many millions ago. We have spunked so much money up the wall on * strikers it actually infuriates me. * Scepovic for 2.4 million and we don't even play the guy, I trust our manager's judgement that he doesn't cut the mustard but it's just a ridiculous signing.

I would rather spend money on a striker who did the business in our own league, against us as well and then if he fails to perform, at least we know why we signed him. I haven't really watched Cifti play specifically, but he does have a bit of something about him, he does score all sorts of goals which I like. I wouldn't be jumping for joy if we signed him, but I certainly wouldn't be upset.

If Scepovic is going to be punted, I wouldn't mind letting him and Guidetti go and signing Ciftci and somebody else

He has some John Hartson traits to which in itself makes him a good buy.

    This. ^

We need to improve our forward line and I don't think he is any better than what we have already. But if we were to lose both Scep and JG he would be a good squad player and would add a new dimension to our attack. So if we had him, Griffiths and a new striker (hopefully better than what we currently have) I'd be happy with that.

    *, this manager * is easy :icon_mrgreen:

I'll put my neck on the line and say I think he will be a success at us. If we get rid of Balde, Pukki, Guidetti, Scepovic and even Stokes and just keep Griffths, Ciftci and another new striker of decent level. I would be very happy.

Edit: I also very much doubt they were discussing any transfer activity on sky sports the now.
