Dissapointment turned to acceptance, acceptance turned to optimism and optimism has now turned to excitement.
That's the best way I can describe the impending appointment of Tony Mowbray. Initially, I was steadfast in my belief that Slavan Bilic would be the right man to take Celtic forward, Tony Mowbray being a distant second and Mark McGee, well....you'd have to take away my belt and shoelaces if he got the Celtic job.
Bilic is certainly a rising star in the managerial world, a man who brought England to their knees at Wembley stadium and has an eye for untapped talent from eastern europe. I have no doubt that he would have made Celtic a better club, but am not surprised that he will probably end up in the EPL.
My acceptance, optimism and excitement for Mowbray came from the realization that until Celtic gain access to the EPL, Mowbray is probably the best level of manager that we will be able to attract. Think of it from Bilic's perspective. You get to manage against Alex Fergusson, Rafa, the Wenger - you are in arguably the best league in the world and certainly the one with the most exposure. How can managing in a blustry Aberdeen January or in front of 8,000 people in Inverness compare? How can a budget of 10m for one player compare to having 10m total (if he's lucky)? It can't. Until Celtic get into the English league, they simply cannot attract A list talent - on and off the pitch.
So why the excitement? Well, I think the first step is to accept that the CL title is out of reach, even the quarters are probably out of reach. The EPL has gone loco in terms of spending and when Glen Johnson is being signed for 17M, there's no way that Celtic will be able to rope in talent. It's like trying to buy a modest house in a rich neighbourhood - the idiots next door are driving up all the prices.
Ok, back to the excitement. Celtic, playing the Celtic way. Mowbray coming from a relegated club is actually a good thing, those guys don't want to play in the Championship, Celtic is a great option for them and Mowbray will be able to bring in good talent at a good price. We're going to see exciting football next season. Attacking, going for the throat style football that I hope we all love. No more 1-0 turning into a last minute 1-1 draw, it's time to go for broke and win with some gusto.
I'm confident that Mowbray will bring success to Celtic Park. We may see the return of a 4-2 thrashing of Rangers, new hero's to lift the SPL and Scottish Cup trophies!
We will have our day in Europe, it won't be today and it may not be soon. But one day, we'll be in the EPL or a breakaway Euro league that will put us at the top of the grand stage once again. Until that day comes, all I can ask for is a club that plays for the badge on their shirt, a club that plays the Celtic way. Stand up for the Champions...(elect)!
Hail Hail.

I have been miserable watching our dire brand of football for much of the last 3 seasons and am so ecstatic to feel genuinely excited about watching our football again next season. It will be such a good feeling to see us win matches next season and win them in an exciting, positive fashion.
Oh happy happy day!! Welcome to Paradise Mogga. :celt_2: -

Oh well the decisions made so let's wish him luck and get behind him.
He will need to do a clear out though because some of the current crop are absolutely dire and will never be good players if he had a month of sundays to work with them  -
