Big tony is a decent manager and his teams play some good stuff. But i just think we need someone with european experience or we could fall flat on our faces. He will get 100% backing from me though if he gets the job.

Chris Killen believes Celtic would be making a good decision if they appoint Tony Mowbray as manager.
The Hoops are searching for a new boss following Gordon Strachan's resignation at the end of the SPL season.
There are a number of names in the frame but West Brom's Mowbray is understood to be among the leading candidates.
It has even been reported that he is in talks with the Glasgow club and Killen has given his support to the potential appointment.
The striker, who worked with Mowbray at Hibernian, has fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead in recent months and was loaned out to Norwich in January.
"He is the right guy to take Celtic forward. The fans will love the style of football he likes to play," Killen said in the Daily Record.

    Stark out of running

Billy Stark, a former player and assistant manager with Celtic, has also been linked with the vacant role.
But he maintains that he is not thinking of taking charge at either Celtic or Aberdeen, another of his former clubs currently looking for a new boss.
Stark is focused on his role as coach of the Scotland national youth teams, saying: "It's not something that I think of now at this moment. Absolutely not.
"Maybe it comes through experience and maybe it's the job security that you are able to focus on the job you are in and see the possibilities.
"I think that's important, that there are possibilities and that you can improve young players through the national team.
"I think that's as rewarding a job as any can be.
"I'm really enjoying my job here. I'm a year-and-a-half into it and I'm getting to grips with it.
"I don't have any thoughts other than trying to get better at doing this job."

    From the website above.

TonyH: SPL's overall quality is irrelevant, it's the top 2 that count, as TM knows very well from his Hibs time. Further, what's this about 'providing the current squad is largely maintained' given that we know it must be severely trimmed due to being a) too big, and b) has lots of deadwood?

AND given that Mowbray and his coaches have firstly brought in a bunch of lousy defenders (Meite, Barnett, Donk, Martis) + others (Kim etc), and then been unable to coach them, why is it causing such anguish if he goes? Yes, we play nice football, albeit generally ineffective, and extremely vulnerable to sharper attackers. Look at what Pulis did with Stoke - and they can't pay sky-high amounts. Make Curbishley a proper offer!

Although I think he has the best CV, I do fear he will have the same flaws as Tommy Burns - an inflexible commitment to nice passing football 'the Celtic way', terrible defences and losing. Hope that is wrong. More and more my personal choice would probably be Levein who I think is a very hard headed man who would be a winner if he had the resources. Also, reporters are terrified of him too so I would look forward to the continuing tradition of savaging the hacks that WGS started.

Mowbray price has collapsed on Betfair - currently trading around 1/4 odds-on.

Could still keep him around as a first team coach or whatever. In fact I heard something a week or so ago about Lennon potentially taking over the youth setup?

On the original point, I'd be happy with Mowbray (and I mean genuinely happy not "I'll not bother burning an effigy of Peter Lawwell in the street" which seems to be the level of 'acceptance' McGhee would get :p) although I'd have prefered Martinez or Bilic.

That was actually, IMO, the biggest reason for the torch-and-pitchforks attitude to WGS from some. His dismissive attitude to the media was seen by some fans as contempt for them and their concerns about the club.

mowbray to be confirmed celtic boss

Tony Mowbray is expected to be confirmed as the new manager of Celtic on Monday, the Guardian can reveal.

The West Bromwich Albion manager had been linked with the post vacated by Gordon Strachan, who resigned at the end of the season after four years at Parkhead, and sources close to the club have now confirmed that the move will go ahead.

The Scottish Premier League side will now unveil the 45-year-old as the new boss after the weekend. He beat competition in the form of Burnley's Owen Coyle and Motherwell manager Mark McGhee, who had also been considered possible successors to Strachan.

It was known that Celtic's board held Mowbray in high regard. He played for the club between 1991 and 1995, and is credited with suggesting the player 'huddle' which is still employed before every match. He also earned plaudits for the style of his Hibernian side when in charge at Easter Road between 2004 and 2006.

Mowbray took the reins at West Brom in 2006, and the Championship side narrowly missed out on promotion at the end of his first season. Mowbray chose to sell some high-profile players to restructure the playing staff, and the result was a victorious Championship campaign in the 2007-08 season.

West Brom return to the Championship next season after finishing last in the Premiership, and Mowbray will now be in the unusual position of taking one of the highest profile managerial posts in Britain having presided over a relegation season at his previous club.

i told you so, monday morning.

The Scottish club hope to unveil the West Bromwich Albion manager as their new man in charge at a press conference within the next 48 hours.
Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, has been involved in an exhaustive and sometimes fruitless quest over the past two weeks in trying to tie down Strachan’s successor.
Owen Coyle was originally lined up for the job, although many within Celtic Park have said that Mowbray was the club’s No 1 target all along.

<!-- END: Module - M63 - Article Related Attachements --><!-- Call Wide Article Attachment Module --><!--TEMPLATE:call file="wideArticleAttachment.jsp" /-->Despite official denials from the club last week, Lawwell had already established contact with Mowbray, who was a Celtic player from 1991 to 1995 and knows the Scottish scene from his time as manager of Hibernian, from 2004 to 2006.
Compensation will remain an issue to be settled between Celtic and West Brom, who have just been relegated from the Barclays Premier League. It is believed that Celtic will pay the Midlands club at least £1.5 million for the release of their manager. Mowbray is expected to hand in his resignation at West Brom over the weekend.
If the deal is clinched over the next 48 hours, the vast Celtic support will be preening themselves at the news. On top of the wide respect Mowbray has built up in England, his Hibernian team played a stylish brand of football under him, including putting Rangers and Celtic to the sword. Celtic will regard it as a coup in landing their pre-eminent target.
News of Mowbray’s impending arrival is also a welcome break for Lawwell, who had been under increasing pressure from an agitated Celtic support and Scottish media to deliver his target. Celtic are in the middle of arranging their pre-season schedule, after which the club will face two stiff Champions League qualifiers at the end of July and beginning of August.

No, but what else do you want when Journo's from two of the the most respected papers in Britain are saying it's a done deal.

Better than McGee but Celtic still made to look very silly with all the turn downs from mediocre managers... Just waiting now, bored of all the assumptions
