To be fair it looks like Joey Barton has screwed the nut so far this year

 

He has a bit, although I still think he is an odious little *.

 

all my thoughts have really been said aka NOVO, black, imrie (dirty wee orange *), kyle, wenger (*), eduardo, nani, anyone from the porto side, gerrard (only recently though....used to love the guy when a was young).

put a new one up for suggestion and say jon obi mikel. wee dirty bastert and can't handle losin (which is rare to be fair). just everything about him a hate.

never said he was a great player
he was a very good player a few years ago when he had beckham infront of him
he's 35 now and yes he's an average player now but i would still have him before glen johnson tbh

 

can't really compare a right back to a striker
was shearer's decision to join newcastle as he supported them which is fair enough
shearer was a great player who would have won more at a bigger club
but neville was certainly a top top player
he wouldn't have been in the man united and england team for so many years if he wasn't

 

What competition did he have?

 

fergie would have bought another player
he did it with many big names. stam, beckham, van nistelrooy ...

 

He fell out with all of them lol. Neville is a good, experienced simple player. Nothing special. Fergie probably thought he could get away with him in the team

Neville will be one of them players that is liked at the time but in ten-twenty years he'll not really be remembered as a great.

Certainly no Danny McGrain.

 

maybe not by you but by utd fans he will be, like him or not through most of the 90's he was the best RB in the premier league, he was a great player in his prime, hard worker, good goin forward solid at the back and an exceptional crosser of the ball.
Was he world class ,of course not but he was a top top player for club and country.

 

Well we remember Danny as World Class player. Possibly the best right back of his time.

That's what I'm getting at; he was a good player and a fan favourate. Mostly because fans always love an * that plays for there team.

Good player but I wouldn't put him in the same class as the Cafu's and Zambrotta's who were in there prime around the same time as Neville.

 

neither would i, theyre world class full backs them neville wasnt like i said, you'll have trouble finding any utd fan who thinks he was world class unless there delusional, thats why i dont think he was overated because no one ever rated him that high on his ability, but to say he was an average player in his prime is just not true imo, you dont hold down a position for 10 years for club and country if your an average player.

 

I'm thinking more of the media perception of him throughout his career the likes of Richard Keys and Andy Gray pronouncing him as the 'best in the business'.

Good player but nothing more than that.

 

I don't know how we got started on Neville but he's been decent over a long period and consistent. Not particularly brilliant. But he's done well to keep his mantle although he hasn't had real competition. But maybe as i said, Fergie saw him as good enough without being amazing. I defo think he is not overrated but I defo can't get away with people saying he's world class (nobody has on here).

edit: still applies but i just realised this is the hate thread and not the overrated one lol.

 

well for about 10 odd years within the realms of the EPL he was the best RB around.

Well agree to disagree mate , for he was an excellent player imo.
