STRACHAN COULD SPLASH MORE EURO CASH
Celtic boss Gordon Strachan insists he could spend again this summer despite
already investing heavily in new players.
Deals for Scott Brown, Massimo Donati and Scott McDonald have together cost
Celtic around #8million, with the Scottish champions able to up their level of
spending as a knock-on effect of their European success.
Celtic earned #11million from UEFA, not including gate receipts, for reaching
the last 16 of the Champions League and have significantly strengthened their
playing staff with those funds.
However Strachan continues to be linked with players, notably 23-year-old
Sochaux defender Guirane N'Daw and 20-year-old Kilmarnock forward Steven
Naismith.
Strachan told Celtic View: ``If it's right, at any time, there could be new
faces.
``In the modern game there are two transfer windows and you prepare for that.
``If anything comes up in these windows that you think you could do now, or in
the future, you've got to decide whether you want to invest. We'll see what
happens.''
The Hoops boss is also confident Chris Killen will make a big impression in his
first season at Celtic.
The New Zealand striker was brought in on a free transfer after his Hibernian contract expired, and is one of six senior strikers vying for selection.
Strachan said: ``We saw last year when Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink was injured
that we needed some more presence and Chris can give us that. If he makes the
position his own, great.'' -

I think the figures released by UEFA demonstrate that while a good run in the UEFA Cup like ours in 2003 can be memorable, the only show in town is the Champions League.
If we want our club to continue to grow and the squad strengthened then it is the only place to be. -

Poor huns! maybe the orange halls will have a baked goods sale for the Rangers transfer budget! HA! HA!

May i just add one thing, The champions league comes with it's own TV deal so part of your 10m is from TV rights.
Where as the Uefa Cup doesn't come with a TV deal so the clubs competing had to negotiate their own with various networks... Which means Rangers actually earned more than 350k from their run in Europe.
Still no getting away from it though, it's still far more profitable to be in the CL. -

oh well, rangers will cheer up for the 12th tommorrow.
thats the reason we must be playing in the champions league each other. 350K is nothing compared to 10 million.
