I know it's just so narrow minded its unreal. Now that were comfortable financially after last season why couldn't we spend 10-15 million to practically guarantee qualification therefore making it all back and more. It's not even that much of a gamble anymore as its not as if we were spending money we didn't have to gamble on getting through. Also at the end of the day were a football club and any players we sign would more than likely go up in value and be financial assets. It's not like you buy them and suddenly they're worthless

A severe case of over rating Hooper here,I might accept Wanyama as having that effect but Hooper no he is not that class of player he scored his goals yes but as an all round player I think his value and rating has became astronomical in his absence !

I dont want to rant on to much but after tonight there is alot that needs answering!! I like Lawell in his overall running of the club but when it comes to bringing in players it seems he is as tight as a nuns *!! We took a gamble by not bringing in a goalscorer and because of that we had nobody up front to give Shaktor anything to fear. If we dont turn this tie around then something really needs to give!

After seeing what i think was one of celtics worst away performances i.e. the Elfsborg game, it was painfully obvious that we needed a replacement before this game but they obviously thought we could take the risk and not re invest, well what a * situation we are in now. Embarrassing.

No, it needs to happen ieven if we get through. Criminal transfer decisions should not be glossed over if the fans rile the team on into a comeback. We are weakened, and only transfers can repair that.

Thats the part that has * me off the most. Even big Dolph said we were abysmal and yet we go to Shaktar and set up the same on a similar pitch.

We'll just need to wait and see what happens in the next 7 days chaps. If we get put out the CL and we dont get some new players i can see the future being very bleak.

And us fans will be looking for some * answers, cause we shouldn't be taking this pish. First they bin the GB, sell our best players, re-invest a fraction of what we have made and now we are hanging on to champions league football by a thread?? nah * them.

You make a good point there by mentioning how bad the performance was in elfsborg never mind tonight. I think the elfsborg performance was arguably the worst away performance I have ever seen from us barring maybe artmedia Bratislava although artmedia were a better team and I include tonight in this as I thought we were marginally better tonight. Now for Lawell to sit back and gamble that we would breeze past this mob because they're only from Kazakhstan was criminal and I don't think I've ever been so angry as a Celtic fan as I have been not just tonight but over the past couple of weeks. So so much was at stake and it looks like he's screwed every one of us with his arrogance and ineptness

Putting in two centre backs who have never played with each other before was mind boggling, one of whom had just returned from injury. It was like Ambrose Juve all over again.

To be fair I could kind of understand playing van dijk especially as ambrose is such a * calamity and believe it or not I actually thought he wasn't too bad he was just hung out to dry by mouyokolo who was completely woeful. What is it with us time after time signing these dud centre backs. That said it would have been wiser in a game of this magnitude to go for chuck and lustig in the centre

We are quite simply an incredibly cautious club. We budget every year WITHOUT Champions League money, we always do the bare minimum and have a "safety first" approach.

This is sensible as it stops you dying a la Rangers, but obviously is still risky and alienates and annoys supporters who cannot understand it.

The only way this will change is once we have had 3 or 4 years of CL group stage football in a row, then we can afford to budget for CL every year - whilst still having a safety net in case of disaster and non-qualification one year.

I'm afraid until and unless that happens, and we reach that level of European consistency, we will have to make do with being patient/lazy/boring/safe until the final days of the window, when qualification is confirmed and the board have a desperate splurge on a few players.

You saw it last season, and if we beat the Kazakhs you will see it this year.

What was this big splurge on players in the final days of the window you say we saw last season?

I wondered how long it would take this discussion to appear if we got ambushed I the asian steppes....and holy * did we get Mongoled..... .

To those who say we dont need to spend to replace our best defensive midfielder and striker.....keep going with that .....however your cheap and cheerful theory has just been unraveled.

I feared that the unkown opponents and the long journey into the heat might cause a minor bomb scare.

We need the very best players and performance to get past this now.

Absolute disgrace that we have went into this tie, the biggest game of the season, in both on an off field terms, with this depleted squad! Lawwell and his biscuit tin have left us on the verge of an early CL exit! all the player development and sell-on of Wanyama and Hooper will be for nothing should we fail to qualify and miss out on the CL money. After the Elfsborg game it was clear to all that quality was needed and not one player has been brought in. Im tired of hearing the same old excuses of us "trying hard" to bring players in, its not a matter of effort its a matter of "money talks" and Lawwell just isn't prepared to spend decent money on proven quality. Fans short changed, Lennon left hamstrung, absolute shambles!

For the board (or lawwell) not to bring in a CD, CM, Striker before this tie is neglect and for me we need fresh people to run the club.
