It was the guy's family who requested the silence. And anyway, thats not the issue. If we can't show a bit of respect for the death of a man who has done no wrong to neither you or me, then the papers have every right to slate us.

1 minute before kick off in one of the most heated, hate filled football matches in the world and they expect everyone to be quiet, thats asking for trouble in my opinion.

What puzzles me is this. An idiotic minority of our support on Sunday will go all out to spoil a minutes remembrance for an ex player of the host club, shaming Celtic FC into the bargain. So why do they find this useful when vocally they're non-existent at our home games, making the place feel like a mausoleum at times it's so quiet. Goes to show they're nothing but trouble makers, exuding negativity on their own club. CCTV should be used and passed to the Celtic board and the guilty parties should have their season tickets withdrawn.

Of course it is, I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing that for the sake of our reputation, we should respect the silence and not have our name tarnished in the newspapers.

I have not said we shouldn't respect the silence.

Just stating its a ridiculous thing to ask.

I never said you did, I was just highlighting how we shouldn't give the papers the chance to slate us, cause it will damage our reputation. Hence the reason why, I, and I'm sure others, do care what the papers say .

Well I and im sure others dont really care what the papers say.

Its bad timing to ask for a minutes silence,i think a minutes applause would have been a better idea.

A minutes applause is always a better idea. However it's a minutes silence so I would hope the folk there behaved themselves. I'm pretty sure they won't though.

This will not go down well! it will be a big ask to ask the minority of celtic fans to behave in the minute, biggest game of the season,we need a win, Alcohol and alot of hatred, and a Ex rangers man who died who most of us have never heard of.A complete recipe for dissaster in my opinion

If the deads man family asked for this, thats fair enough but the public
relations officer for the huns could have made it a bit clearer that this could potentialy explode in our faces and in view of millions all over the world
wrong move in my opinion

a minutes clap would be more of a dissaster free tribute

Especially when they live in Germany.

If he died the other week then it would have been during the Hibs game, he didn't though, he died no less than 2 day ago so there for It is only right a minutes silence is to be asked for as we would likewise for a for player who had 5 years at our club, one who was part of a Euro winning team, one who was representing there club only 2 years ago.

There are times when we thinks things are done for a reason, this Cleary isn't.

What we can argue is the fact Rangers can't change the goal post from applause to silence to suit the occasion which is what they are doing.

Rangers Hamilton Co-Op Cup 28/10/08
the teams stepping out & some of the minute's applause for Rangers legend Ian McColl who sadly passed away aged 81.

This clearly shows that they are more than happy to carry out an applause when it suits them and a silence when there agenda is so blatantly to try and make our supports look disrespectful.
This, a decision coming from the top wigs at Ibrox as well.

F**k them, we are bigger than that, I do believe we will show our respect for this occasion and just imagine how it will make the team feel as they stand in the middle of the park knowing behind them, there support is strong, as they will be there for there own agenda, to see there team close the gap to 4 points.

Rangers players haven't exactly got a good track record respecting their heroes....

If someone disrespects the silence next to you then give them a * good punch in the head. Fans who tarnish the name of the club should be banned and made to feel unwelcome at Celtic Park.

I agree with that, some of our support will disrupt the minute's silence, at least if it was an applause it would be less obvious if it wasn't observed by someone.

Saying that this is simply to make Celtic look bad is incredibly self-centered

Its also about as classy as when some Rangers fans said we took a weekend off after Phil O'Donnell died simply to rest up and gin advantage in the league... craziness
