Lennon, meanwhile, has received winger Mikey Johnston could require surgery.

He hasn’t travelled to France for the pre-season matches and is scheduled to see a specialist to assess his latest injury.

Lennon added: “He’s got an injury and he’s back home. Mikey has been having problems with his calves and he needs to see a specialist.

“He’s not had much luck. It’s been a bit stop-start but with his age and going through the maturation process he’s picking up injuries. It’s frustrating for him and frustrating for us.

“Bayo has an injury too and he is getting treatment.

Gutting for him, no luck at all for the lad but hopefully they sort the issue. Going to need another left winger now.

  5. Could be a huge asset if he can get rid of these recurring injuries.

And a GK, CB and utility defender. Hammond is going to be busy in the next couple of weeks.

    So injury prone.

We could be doing with a winger who can play on the left and right.

  8. Forrest used to get injured all the time too

Celtic winger Mikey Johnston will see a specialist as the rising Hoops star looks to get to the bottom of his ongoing injury exasperation.

The Scotland youth international hasn't kicked a ball for the Premiership champions since limping off during the 3-0 win over St Johnstone in January.

Johnston earned rave reviews last season for his dazzling displays but was left disconsolate after hobbling off during a rain-soaked night in Perth.

The winger is currently dealing with fresh injury woe that's poised to leave him on the sidelines ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

And Celtic boss Neil Lennon admits that's a source of frustration for himself and the 21-year-old.

He said: “Mikey’s got an injury and he’s back home. He has been having problems with his calves and he needs to see a specialist.

He’s not had much luck. It’s been a bit stop start but with his age and going through the maturation process he’s picking up injuries. It’s frustrating for him and frustrating for us.

Lennon's injury update comes only days after former Hoops first team coach Damien Duff's extolled the virtues of a player but he also provided one significant caveat.

Speaking to Open Goal, the Chelsea legend said: "Mikey (Johnston). If he stays fit - my * what a winger you have got there."

And Duff's latest rave review comes after he previously described the wide man as "world class" in 2019.

Celtic will be desperate for one of their key men to make a return.

    Need 2 wingers tbh.

His injuries are a massive concern.

Not sure I agree. We've got Mo,Forrest ,Frimpong ,Taylor ,Boli. Also young Dembele should be able to put in a shif against most SPFL teams.
I think our priority is GK and CB. If we get those two sorted I'll be happy

Only 2 of those players you've mentioned are wingers. It's not the season to be taking risks.

    Boli is mince.

As for Dembele he is still so young so it would be stupid to rely on him to be able to step in.

Three if we are counting dembele, but as much as I think he is ready for this season, he isn't ready to be playing an integral part at all.

Of the ones mentioned we have two left wingers in Ely and Johnston.
    One right winger in Forrest.

Definitely would agree we need one, maybe a second if we consider Johnston an injury concern for the foreseeable.

Getting annoying watching some fans claim we have cover because X player can play there if needed.
We need 25 players (give or take) for a season.
Going by folk having elhamed as a CB, Forrest and Ely as attack mids, boli, Taylor and frimpong as wingers, we will end up going in to a season with around 18 * players and a bunch of youth.

Waiting for the "I saw Édouard with a pair of gloves on, he's cover for keeper" suggestions.

I meant out of the first load of senior players.

As I said there I dont think dembele is ready. And it's a lot to ask for him to cover Forrest.

2 wingers isnt out of the question. Even one on loan.

Johnston looks as though he will again miss a large chunk of the season. Calf injuries at his age are a concern.

    We need:

    GK
    CB
    LB
    LW
    RW
    ST

    In this window. For me.

Sorry Shelby, snuck an edit in while you was replying.

Totally agree that we shouldn't be using dembele as an integral part.
Ideally we want two players for each position. Two for each that aren't the youth who haven't got game time yet.

So yeah agree with you, two wingers if we consider the issues Mikey has (which I hope he gets over and becomes a key part of the squad which I think he can).

Reckon a fit Mikey and Ely is perfect for the left.
We just need the equivalent to help Forrest (not dembele.).

    No worries.

Aye a fit Johnston is more than good enough and homegrown too. But he does have a lot to work on consistency wise...dont want him to just be one of these flash in the pan types.

Only has to look at forrest. I think he has that level of potential if not more.

    Agreed.

And more than ever this season. December is always busy in the fixture list, but with last seasons Scottish Cup semi and final taking place this season, it's going to be even more congested than usual.

We need a big squad with plenty of cover in every position.

  18. To me it's now all about carefull spending. There might only be two wingers, but thete are IMO alternative options.
What options do we have for Fraser Forster?

Whilst you could argue that Bitton is a decent option as a CB, I still think we need an accomplished CB.
If we get a GK and a CB and there's money left then by all means look at wingers. But IMO it's not a priority

  19. Just to emphasise my point a Bitton deflection has just flown by Bain.
    I rest my case
