Scored 18 and assisted 12 in 1.5 seasons, and scored 23 goals in J league the year before that. His end product is not bad for a winger really.

For Maeda as well, someone who is seen almost universally as rubbish technically, he has got regular stats that show he knows where the goal is.

Not seeing what some others do in Johnston. Think he flatters to deceive in all honesty cos he's nice technically on the ball.

Same age as Jota aswell and the gulf between the two is absolutely massive. Won't lose any sleep if he goes.

I guess with Rodgers back we won't be doing the 'we never stop - run non stop until you drop' style like Ange did, so that will bring back in other types of players again - gonna be interesting see how the EPL primadonnas cope with that.

It will be quite interesting to see how BR copes with Maeda!

As everyone else in the thread says, I'd be up for giving him another chance this season

Haksa was a funny one last season had some good impact for us in games off the bench but anytime he was subsequently rewarded with an opportunity to start he was like a burst couch before half time and had no impact at all.

Whereas with Mikey by time he had earned his starting place for Vitoria he was impacting the game from early on but still has the issue of his end product while better was still not always the best. I think Mikey issue can be worked on more than Haksas can. But we shall see, it's for Brendan to work out when he gets them into his pre season camp.

Looked good last night when he came on, although I understand Gibraltar aren't the best. I've always liked him though, be happy to see him get another shot here.

He has been injured for much of that time, so nailing down a first team place wasn’t really a possibility. However, we had someone similar in James Forrest, who I would have had out the door prior to Rodgers coming here previously. He completely transformed him though. Kept him fit and he was one of our main players. Johnston seems to have been able to stay fit for much of last season, Rodgers could be the manger to get a tune out of him. He might not, but no harm in having a look at him, which I’ve no doubt he will do.

It's irrelevant that he's 24. As you say he's been injured much of that time so affecting his development. There are players who don't peak til their mid to late 20s. 24 is still relatively young.
