Been dodging this thread for some reason, but what's his issue now?

I said last week, would rather give him a further two weeks off because of how likely he is to take a knock again, seems he has?


He needs properly conditioned and managed, much like Forrest did in the deila season and going in to Rodgers first year.
Came back a better player for it.

He picked up 'a little niggle' on Wednesday last week during training, and the decision was apparently taken to not risk him for the Raith game on Thursday or the weekend with United - more as a precaution because of the length of the lay off he is coming back from, so should be back in the frame soon, maybe this week? That is, assuming it is nothing more than that, or if that is just the story has has been put out there.

 

From what we’ve seen of both of them, there’s no doubt that Johnston has more natural ability on the ball in terms of dribbling, ability to beat a man etc.

But Abada has done more in a dozen or so games than Johnston has in about 3 years.

Offer him 12 months salary to amicably cancel his contract and get rid. This guy's done

 

I think he would've been a really great player but I can't see it happening now.

Everyone growing up knows at least 2-3 guys that were brilliant at football but got injured in their late teens and couldn't play anymore. It looks like he's just not got what you need to be a professional sportsman.

 

Very true on both counts. That for me is what is so frustrating about Johnston. There is no doubt he is a really quality player who could be a dominant attacking player for us but he just cannot stay fit. It is unreal at this point how easily and often he gets injured.

I really think he’s underrated. If you can get him fit and playing he’s got so much quality. He could really hurt teams in this league.

Obviously not relevant if he continues the way he’s going but the quality is clearly there.

True, staying fit is always going to be his biggest challenge, especially with the SPL hammer throwers getting free hits on our guys but I also think he needs proper coaching, to work on his teamplay, no doubting his ability but he needs to be more controlled and find that killer pass, as he can glide into really good positions.
Good to see him back.

I’ve always felt he wouldn’t make it. He played very very well yesterday when he came on. Hopefully, he can kick on. As we have all seen with Ralston, players can turn things around if given the time. Absolutely need to give him time but he needs to stay fit fit for the remainder of the season and really kick on.

 

Hopefully, the manager will up his game time over the next few games (20 minutes, then half an hour, etc.)

 

One he's up to speed (or hopefully) he'll be a good option. With Forrest being out, we can give Abada a break, stick Jota on the right and Mikey left..

Given his injury record I hope we bit by bit slowly work Johnston back into the team. But it really is great to see him back as he can have a big impact for us this season if he stays fit from here on in.
