Nayl's was on celtic tv lastnight , comes across as a good guy and looked up for the battle ahead .
i just dont understand when people single out a left back like he's been the main guy they want out when the whole midfield should hold the blame for not doin *
The midfield is the problem ffs

As for the team, the CH pairing is awfull forcing the CM to play deep,
the opposing team snuffs out aidan and therefor our main threat.
The 2 (skippy and deeks) best strikers we have are frowned upon in favour of arguably our worst, and as we know strikers thrive on confidence.
The one man with the job to fix this is so self involved he can't * see it. -
I can agree with the defence playing deep because of lack of pace, but the midfield, for me, do not close the gap between themselves and the defence, leading to the opposing midfield being able to get in the gap behind the defence and midfield.
There is no harm in closing the gap, 10 yards to cover from a midfield is not too much to ask surely, and only when defending.
Most of our goals conceded are from teams playing straight through us, and midfielders running beyond ours, (Thomson's goal) and us not covering the hole.
This is where you see the loss of Neil Lennon, who was the master of plugging that gap. We have no-one other than Hartley, and he won't play him, who can play that part. -
For me its the CH's that are the issue here, they are clueless, and i agree they play too deep, and always on a * line. -

get a grip mate , the midfield is the key component to the problems -
I agree totally, if you play a 4 man defence, then your midfield suffer from playing a dm. Ideally, a dm should be played in a 3-5-2 or a 4-5-1, depending on the situation.
I just don't see the benefit of playing a dm in a 4-4-2 formation.
The centre of defence is defiinitely not good enough, no matter how many people try to promote McManus, but, our central midfield are woeful imo, and the balance is off. They have no understanding of the one goes, one stays, tactic (mastered by Collins and McStay) hence the reason offensive midfields have a field day with us. -
I think this problem may not solely be down to the players. I think it might be part of this silly zonal system we play.
For example we deploy a zonal defense at set plays however we might be playing a zonal defensive system during open play aswell. As surely we would see at least one of our CM players over the season tracking oposition runners. It looks to me that our midfielders engauge their oponents when they are in their zone and pass them on when they are not. This is isolating our defenders and is causing some of the problems.Last edited by a moderator: Apr 12, 2008 -
Donati eh?
why are they playing so poorly if not for the muppets behind, and the lack of pace in front? -

the midfield has ghosted through so many games its fukn unreal
we have been mashed , and let me guess ...its all donati's fault ?? for me brown is the weakest player in there ,lads got no discipline and has no premise of playing for a team as big as us , i believe he played in a 3 man hibs midfield, maybe he needs his mate thompson to help him oot
he's been rotten -
Brown is a mystery for me. He seemed to thrive on knowing he could burst forward with Thomson and Beuzellin behind him.
Sno would excel in a 5 man midfield imo, but cannot cut it in a 4.
Donati at this moment just cannot adapt to our game, and time is not a thing afforded at the Old Firm. -
-
He is not a patch on Petrov, and his performances and goals return is proof of this.
He looks like a player who has made the wrong choice imo. -
-
Am i wrong here paul, is GS telling the CM'ers to win the ball and get it to the flanks, because thats all they try to do. -
-
i reckon brown will come onto a game... hes a good player.. same with naka.. these type of players cant run a team.. you need good players around you to excell.. i for one reckon the midfield is our strongest position. we have more players available in that position than any other.
i reckon some players who play midfield either from strachan are told not to go forward.. or 2 are scared to go forward because they dont have confidence/faith in the CB.
im not a big fan of mcmanus.. thats for sure... i reckon there is more to CB that talking and pumping the ball up the park.. i dont reckon mcmanus is a longterm player for celtic -
You'll notice Brown making the odd dart beyond the strikers, but only when the strikers drop deep to pick the ball up. (Samaras ball's to Brown at Ibrox). Very seldom will you see the midfield running beyond, unless it's onto a pass from our forwards.
Good point you make with Donati. He seemed happier picking out the pass to the forward running into space. It was a feature of Zurawski that folk didn't like, but it was an essential part of our play at the time. -

i think the main problem with the midfield is a lack of pace in fact the hole team is the same mcgeady apart we have no one who can frightin teams with that electric burst of pace we need to change to a 433 and play naka in field with hartley as the dm naka to his left his main strength apart from setpieces is passing not going past players teams are wise to him this year they double up and mark him out the game if you see him play for japan he plays in the centre with a 3 man or 5 man midfeild.
get brown in there with those 2 and you can push mgeady forward let him drag players around and give him more freedom also could give riordan a run again its back 2 a system that he and brown were used 2 at hibs also play samaras most mobile and still a threat in the air then in the summer buy a quality cb who has pace and can read the game better than caldwell the muppet. -

Play Hartley ffs, we need a leader who is has passion and control. hes the answer to the problem. Donati has no consistency, i liked him for the first 5-10 games. i think GS has his him playing an uncomfortable roll that hes not suited to play. Brown needs a kick in the *, he shouldnt be garanteed a spot every week with his performances of late. i would play McGeady-Hartley-Robson- Riorden, lets face it, naka is not what he was last season.
