Was he given time? Even by any standards the answer would be no.

However, why would he want to stay? He was given a huge amount of abuse when he was manager. I certainly would not put up with the pish he was getting from idiots who know nothing about about football.

Same applies to WGS...he left because of the "supporters" in my opinion and quite rightly so. He was treated disgracefully. MON was a hero whilst Gordon received little or no recognition and still got abuse despite his amazing record.

Best fans in the world my *.

Mowbray couldn't cope mentally with the pressures of the job, Strachan could.

...maybe, but Strachan still left the club whilst at the top....why? The supporters did not like him for some reason. He knew that and decided to leave.

We got taken the * out of time and time again under Mowbray, he deserved to be punted. In fact he stayed longer than he should have as if it were up to me then he'd have been sacked on the spot as soon as Mo Edu scored that last minute winner against us.

As for Strachan he wasn't forced out, he was always going to leave after 4 seasons, he said as much. If it wasn't for winning 3IAR in extremely emotional circumstances then I reckon he would have left a year before he did.

Nah I don't think so, Strachan has said it himself, he doesn't like staying somewhere for too long, same as Southamptoon beforehand, he had decided that he no longer wanted to carry on. I agree though, WGS was treated unfairly by the support.

Mowbray didn't do anything right as manager so any abuse was warranted, unlike WGS and MON

Neither Strachan nor Mowbray received abuse at any significant level.

Hence the reason Strachan loves the club and its fans and Mowbray still considers himself part of 'The Celtic Family'.

Where you are going with questioning Celtic fans as a whole, I'm not sure.

Strachan never received widespread abuse from the fans at the stadium however a quick look at the papers, forums and any other mass media outlet would have shown him how "supporters" regarded him. The fact nobody sung his name or game him the adulation he deserved would speak volumes.

Tony Mowbray did receive some quite vitriolic abuse from fans in the stadium as I recall. If he read some of the posts on here the only conclusion he could reach was he was regarded in the same esteem as a child molesting orangemen.

But Mowbray's football and players were the most dull and uninspiring in Celtic history. Even Robbie Keane was signed by the board, not Mowbray himself, and he was the only shining light in that season. Awful football, awful results, awful times under Mowbray at Celtic. For that, I don't really think "hope Middlesbrough are winning", as his name, for me, brings back nothing but bad memories.

    Agreed with this entirely.

Any mention of Mowbray's name immediately takes me back to that dark night in Paisley.....

Strachan refused to be a sycophant during his time as manager and the crowd awarded him the same level of public praise.

Mowbray did not receive any level of public abuse. The odd person or group? Of course, but then I've heard James Forrest being called 'a dirty hun' at Parkhead so you can picture the level of idiot that still frequents the place

Probably the case for a lot of young fans I'd imagine. For the rest they can remember the big centre half that wore his heart on his sleeve and was treated with the upmost respect and dignity by the club and supporters when his wife passed away.

Do you seriously think he never gave his all for our club? He just wasn't up to it, it's football and that happens.

He is a proven manager in England, at a higher level than the SPL.

I never said that he didn't give his all for our club.

I'm sure he gave his all but it was nowhere near good enough, and his attitude towards the job was pretty bewildering if the truth be told.

Hope he does well at Middlesbrough, looks like he's really good with Championship teams. Don't know about his playing days in 90s (which shouldn't be ignored), but as a manager he did seem to give his best and had a long-term idea for the club even though it didn't work out.

His public image and personality probably had some influence on people's opinion of him as he was a quiet guy who didn't resort to some daft statements and wasn't in centre of attention often.

Although one bad thing about his time at Celtic was all the compensation * after he left. It can be described as just business, but that's not the way club he has an affection for should be treated.

Also, gotta love this crap about ripping the soul out of the team. Many players from his time still gave half-arsed performances and many times didn't give a * under Lennon's management. Prime example was yesterday.

I really doubt you'd be saying that if you were in Paisley that night.....

    OK, fair enough.

But I also recall Ross County, Utrecht away, Braga away, Sion in both games, 2:3 vs Inverness, DU and Inverness before New Year, 0:2 Motherwell away etc. Matches in which Lennon failed to motivate players which ultimately cost us big time.

Yesterday as well. I don't see Lennon as a great motivator as he's being made out to be.

Ross County always gets brought up but I don't blame Lennon for that one at all.

Anyway, I agree with you that Lennon has been at fault for the majority of the games which you have rhymed off.

However, the crux of the matter is that we as a team showed a hundred times more passion in that cracking spell we had last season than anything Mowbray ever managed to conjure up. It's incomparable really.

Why not? He took over right after St. Mirren game and had a few weeks to get team sorted enough to beat team from second tier with players like Hinkel, McGeady and Keane. Total lack of motivation was what lost us the game there, our team was hundred times better than theirs.

Definitely, but we also bottled it when it mattered. Getting players fired up for a game against Motherwell, Aberdeen etc. isn't really a work of genius, we failed in important games. He may have done better than Mowbray in that department, but who wouldn't really?

He said it all in his post-match Ross County interview. He can't give the players hunger and desire, and that was absolutely the case that day. That embarrassment was all down to the players.

As to your second bit, the fact that we've bottled it in so many games under Lennon is down to his tactics and team selection rather than anything else. The lack of fight like we seen yesterday hasn't been that common under Lennon at all.

Then he was very much at fault there, how can he fail in such simple task like giving players lift for a game vs Ross County when before that we won two games in the league? Surely he can tell the players to just continue that level of performance (not really high level is needed, it's a second league team), something which players did later when we won all league games left.

Kind of, yeah, but lack of spirit and desire was a big factor as well. Maybe not as often as under Mowbray, but we did see a lot of disinterest among players under Lennon.

I'm pretty sure he would have told the players to keep it up, along with all the other cliches, but at the end of the day if the players aren't interested as soon as that whistle blows, despite that being their only chance of doing anything noteworthy that year, then there's absolutely nowt any manager can do.

Nah I wouldn't say that at all, it was only a few months ago that we were hearing about the great group we had, how the players and management were all in it together etc etc.
