Good on him. Its a shame he couldn't bring success to us.

Is wee Skippy still playing for Middlesbrough?

I am surprised mate I think it was apparent that Tony didn't like him at all.

I would love to see Skippy returnone day.

I've got mixed feelings on that one

I loved the guy when he was here but i'm never really keen on players who were good in their first spell at the club returning in case they don't play well

There's always exceptions. Miller for Rangers is a perfect example.

At least we would know what we were getting. :50:

    Let the people sing,
If Lenny was dreadful as him as manager would people hate him as much?
I think loads forget he played for the club and captained us, but i guess most don't remember that only the bad stuff. Unfortunate he didn't do well here would like to see him improve at least he tries to play the right way.

I can't really understand the hate. There's no doubt in my mind he wanted to be successful for Celtic and gave his all, he just wasn't good enough. We should regret appointing him but not hate him.

Good guy, as you have said mate.

I suppose hatred is a bit much for a man who clearly loves/loved the club.

Hated him as a manager but obviously not as a person. I'm sure most people are the same. :50:

Good luck too Tony Mowbray, hopefully his Celtic Legacy is remembered for The Huddle and not his disasterous stint as manager.

I don't have anything against Mowbray now but the memory of his season here is still a memory I'm struggling to forget. His comments in the press when he signed, about our team not being good enough and that he wanted to bring better players in was a really bad decision on his part. It was clear to see that throughout that season he struggled to get the players he picked to want to play for him. He wasted a large chunk of his transfer budget on a striker who didn't score enough, he got rid of our best striker for a 5 month PR stunt/appeasement of the fans in the shape of Keane with absolutely no view to making the move permanent. To outside eyes, there appeared to be clear unrest amongst the squad. The alarm bells were ringing before he even started as we had appointed a manager that had just gotten WBA relegated the previous season. He promised attractive football and we played the boring, grinding style of football that the previous manager was often accused of.

The other thing that irks me about Mowbray (although this isn't his fault) is that some fans seem to have plenty of time for Mowbray and still reserve intense dislike for someone who was great with Celtic, Strachan. Even from the beginning, Mowbray's name was being sung in by the fans and received more support from some than Strachan received in 4 years, despite being a million times the Celtic manager Mowbray was. Even as Strachan won his second title here at Kilmarnock, when a small amount of away fans were chanting 'Only one Gordon Strachan' it was blindingly obvious that there were a large number of fans who didn't join in, further proving just how disliked he was.

I went a bit off topic and having said all that, I would like to see Mowbray do well with Middlesbrough.

I said at the time it was a huge mistake to get rid of Mowbray, as it is removing any manager who has not been given sufficient time. He was sacked after 45 games, which in my opinion is a complete waste of time. Why give someone a job in the first place?

I think he will get Middlesborough promoted this season, and he will again be a Premiership manager. If he succeeds it will show our short-termism was wrong.

Nah he had to go, absolutely no doubting that, he couldn't salvage us. Good man though, wish him all the best, he hasn't wronged Celtic in any way so I don't understand the hostility just because he failed at a job that every fan would love to have a crack at.

I don't think he was up to the task at Celtic though, in fact I know he wasn't because we witnessed a broken man when St Mirren whalloped us away from home which turned out to be the straw that broke the camels back.

I have no doubt he is a good manager, one with excellent ideas and they will work for another club but him and the Celtic job just didn't go together. His style is too powder-puff.

I completely disagree with this, Mowbray didn't have the heart for the job. The fact he tried to resign three times before we fired him proves that I think.

    Who would need the abuse?

If he had a look on here during his tenure he would have seen some disgusting comments & insults from people who know * all about football management.

Same applies to Gordon Strachan, why did he leave? He was not wanted by the Celtic "support".
