I think a few folk (not just on here) are a bit swayed by the fact lewandowski never got it last year and the slow start to Messi psg career.

Bottom line, Messi has been phenomenal yet again this year overall.
Carried Barcelona last season and dragged Argentina to a Copa.

    It's hard to argue it.

Had he not won the Copa, then I'd see it differently, but he did and it all counts.

Would be surprised if he was in the top 3 next year though. If his season continues as it has so far, he won't be making many headlines other than to go back to Spain, perhaps.

Folk tend to want to see something different after a while too, so it’s no surprise there’s a clamour for Lewandowski’s claim to it. Messi is fully deserving of the award though.

The problem is the voting structure he had a wad of south american voters and that will skew the votes.

There’s significantly less South American voters than European, so I’m not really sure how you can imply that’s beneficial to Messi :43:

Messi deserved! It was a lot closer though, makes up for the one he was robbed when Modric won.

The only result I don't agree with is Salah being so far back... Would have had him in 3rd behind Lewa at least.

Almost single handedly won Argentina the Copa America. Carried Barca as well until the end of the season. His lack of form the 1st few games for PSG are the only part where he maybe didn't deserve it..

Wouldn't some of them have wanted to have voted for Neymar or Jorginho though? Or the other Argentinians?

By that logic, all the African nations/votes would have been for Salah, which would have been more than that?

Because every vote will goto a south american, it was well quoted that it was basically Eurovision-esque.

Happened in 2010 when Xavi and Iniesta should have got it, but Messi got it again.

Hes one of the greatest no doubt but this was daylight robbery.

Guardiola hits the nail on the head today. Have your favourite or your opinion but never suggest Messi winning the best player in the world award is unfair, unjust or wrong. He is far, far, too good to be disrespected like that.

In years to come when folk look back they’ll realise he should have had far more than 7 because even when Ronaldo has been flying the best player on the planet has always been Leo Messi.

So by that logic every European would have voted for the top European, clearly being Lewandowski, and (as more Europeans vote) a European would always win the award :43:

To suggest Messi winning the Ballon D’Or was daylight robbery only serves to suggest that you very rarely watch Messi to be honest. Just because he has consistently been the best in the world and is, to a large extent, taken for granted as result is no reason to downplay how deserving he is on this year’s merits alone.

Xavi and Iniesta were sublime in 2010, but neither were the best player in the world and they’d be quick to admit it themselves.

Aye, I’d have gave it to Lewandowski personally but trying to argue between is just semantics, trying to say he didn’t deserve to be anywhere near it is unadulterated pish.
