mcmanus let himself down not just by his poor form last season but with that tackle on driver... i think it was. Just reckless and put mowbray down to 10 men that day.
I think thats what sealed his loan move away.

i wouldnt mind seen him back though if his football and form has goten better at boro.

I would love to see McManus back..he's the only one in defence who is not a * and will put his body on the line every time for Celtic. He was pish the start of the season but lbh who wasn't? He was also carrying a long-term injury and still wanted to play on. Hopefully we can get a good, solid defender to play beside him or maybe Hooiveld could do a job in there as well?

in his first two full seasons in the first team most celtic fans were touting him as a celtic cente half for many years to come and comparing him to the great billy mcneil...in these two seasons mcmanus will simply asked to do one thing and that was to defend...

his decline has came about by Mowbray asking him to do something he wasn't comfortable doing...he is not a centre half who can pass his way out of trouble or who his overly comfortable with the ball at his feet likewise Robbie Keane wouldn't be comfortable being asked to be a targetman...

get him back to basics simple defending and we have a cracking no nonsense centre half on our books...

And not only had he mastered playing in defence but he could also do it in midfield...

have u seen a handsome hun
its funny how absence makes the heart grow fonder. mick hadnt played well for two seasons. and was getting worse as his confidence departed with whatever form he had. caldwell was the same....both were allowed to leave as they were a liability. if it is however a choice between thompson and odea or mcmanus and hooiveld.... id go with tweedle dee and tweedle dum.
    christ our squad is poor.
good news though, the club fully expect all the youngsters to come good in about 3 seasons..........like koki and misun ( who? )

McManus's decline came under strachan mate, not because of strachan, just because he was found wanting on many occasions.

Positionally, at times McManus was shocking, constantly allowing himself to be pulled out to the left, and like the current boys, Odea etc... is also majorly guilty of ball watching.

I would have him at this precise moment, but not for the future

    time to move on...

He's a step up from Brown but ultimately not good enough.

his decline under strachan happened when our full team was struggling and then he was asked by a new manager to do something he was not comfortable with...

being pulled out to the left?? no wonder with naylor or wilson next to him on the left...could john terry stay in position if one of these two liabilities were next to him...

time and time again mcmanus has played brilliantly for celtic and scotland when he is asked to simply defend

why are people slating big mick, mowbray * him about, hes a great defender with alot of heart when hes at the top of his game, he was solid the season we won 3 in a row him and caldwell, so just give the big man a break and let him come back and prove himself.

Exactly, this has been my arguement for a while! Everyone keeps saying how they can't wait for Hooiveld to come back and im like......why? We have hardly see him play! And for those who go on about Maloney being injury prone.....this guy has only play 1 and a half games in nearly 4 months.....is he not on the same boat?

exactly, in strachans 4th season he played alot with injuries, at times showing too much determination, where as mowbray was a * who destroyed our best centre half pairing in years, hope mick comes back and plays beside a similar style of player to heid next season.

Him being constantly pulled out of position cannot be blames simply on the fullbacks... And John Terry would need to stay in position... Wouldnt he.... ???

What exactly was it he wasnt comfortable doing.... ???

You cannot be telling me that a professional footballer on £15,000 - £20,000 per week cant be comfortable passing a ball!

McManus is decent in the air, would throw himself in front of a train for celtic, but positionally is constantly found wanting if you watch his game close, and is guilty on many occasions of ball watching.

I admit he is best when asked to simply defend, but we need to be looking at centre halfs who are better at defending that big Mick, comfortable under pressure, and positionally astute... and also comfortable with the ball at their feet!

I want him back as much as a wanted O'dea back which wasnt at all. He is been hailed as a saviour :56: He's an absolute joke of a defender.

    * in the air
    Positionally shocking
    ball distrubtion is *
makes a good tackle once in a blue moon and the only reason it looks good is because he has found himself that much out of position that he wins it.

Mcmanus struggles against SPL fodder like Billy Mehmet and Michael Higdon , and his poor positioning doesn't make up for his lack of pace.. Continually beaten in the air by 6 foot+ opponents when defending.. Punt him along with Loovens and put the money towards someone better.. Craig Levein can spot a defender and if he doesn't have enough confidence in Mcmanus to pick him for the current Scotland squad then I'd say he's not good enough for the first team at Celtic.. Better than the majority of what we have but judging a player against pish is bound to make them look good..

we've seen this season with john terry at centre half without ashley cole on his left his form has suffered...

if every professional centre half was comfortable pulling the pull down and passing it from the back they would all be worth 30 million alas rio ferdinand

as above wonder if dermot desmond will sign ferdinand for celtic

So before Cole signed, Terry was uncomfortable... ?

Come on mate, You can have a decent defense with 4 decent defenders. If a full back is found wanting, then they will be hung out to dry, that doesn't mean that your centre half's get pulled all over the place mate, and you know that!

Terry Suffered a bout of bad form, simple as!

Im not asking for mcManus pulling the ball 30ft out of the air and spraying passes about like the Kaizer mate, im asking that our centre half is positionally astute, good timing in the tackle, solid in the air, can sort the defense out and is also comfortable on the ball...

McManus may come back and prove some of us wrong i dont know, but he had a poor bout of form over the past 2 seasons....

    Also....

Your reasons for McManus's troubles down to us having poor full backs, so would you say that the problem also with Odea and thomson, or are they just simply poor at times like McManus.... ???
