McGeady Deal ,Threads Merged.

£10 mil not enough imo and i believe he is every bit as good as lennon and he can still improve a lot too...look at players like downing and nani both cost more than 10 mil and both are nowhere near as good as mcgeady..

 

He has the potential mate. He is great at SPL LEVEL. So far he hasn't been able to prove himself week in - week out at EPL level. So clubs looking into buying him are also taking a little bit of a risk, knowing he may not cut the step up. £10 million is more than fair, I wouldn't like to see him gone mid-season though, McGeady can win points on his own.

 

EVERY player has his price and if they get a silly offer they will at the very least look at it closely and who can blame them and its all about what you do with the money so lets wait and see

yes arron lennon is one of the best wingers around - he would not come to us . aidn mcgeady is also one of the best wingers around , and he is already with us . give aiden a new contract , make him our highest paid player , selling him would be a false economy. put mcgeady on one wing, mcginn on the other . WHY NOT ? that is a proper old school celtic attacking side....no need to sell him , all we need is one striker and a centre back , sell the diddies if we need to raise funds , leave the midfield alone PLEASE

 

the main reason they are looking at mcgeady is because they seem to think they can pick up quality players on the cheap from the spl.thats why i would never sell for 10 mil cos if we played in the premiership they know they would be out priced at 15 to 20 mil

first things first. i think we should sell mcgeady, because our only chance of progression is to become a selling club, BUT(!) i wouldnt sell mcgeady right now. Depending on when his contract runs-out, and if he accepts, say, a years extension or whatever. Basically i would be looking to sell him around the 2-3 year mark. He is more than likely our most valuable player ( based on price tag, and probably his role also ), so we should be holding on to him and see if he gets any better, and if his price inflates. Theres always a time to sell, a time when its just "right" for the player in question to go, and i dont think mcgeadys is for at least another season.

Second thing, and ive not seen this once in all these mcgeady threads.
IF we are to sell mcgeady for said £10M ( this seems to be the most common value ), then WHY do we need to replace him with another £10M player? Thats the most ridiculous logic ive ever seen. Nearly all of celtic's signings that have been into the "couple million" bracket due to their skill or whatever have failed. Jesus, look at Tor Andre Flo! Would you REALLY want to risk one of those? And just to expand a little on that point. In most match chat threads, alot of people are saying "mcgeady cant win by himself" and "he is surrounded by crap". OK, i dont entirely disagree with this, players perform better when theres better quality. It goe's alot deeper than that to be honest, but thats only scratching the surface when i say that. So why would we replace mcgeady with another £10M player, to take a risk, AND surround him with "*"? Like alot of people are saying; "mcgeady needs the talent around him", or similar statements. Cant people see it would be the exact same situation for a high priced new comer?

And just to finish, again, IF mcgeady were to leave for said £10M price tag, do you REALLY think celtic are going to splash all of that out on 1 signing? Infact, do you really think the board are going to make every single last penny of that available for bringing in a few players, nevermind one? I would expect to see around the region of £5M - £6M available, and purely for bringing in a number of players. Actually, that would probably be our whole transfer budget for that particular window/season.

Sorry to sound so negative, but there's alot of naive people/opinions on this website, and those who are shouting out for aaron lennon* to be signed when mcgeady -assuming that he actually will- gets sold, are the same people who are going to be calling for his head when he under-performs and start the "sell aaron lennon*" threads.

mcgeady is only worth what a team will pay for him. IMO £10m is about right...and we might not even get that. He is a good spl player at the moment but he has done nothing at the top level to suggest he would play for a top team in the epl week in week out.

Pavluchenko - no chance he will be coming to the spl.

 

Birmingham are ready to offer Liverpool £8m for Ryan Babel! Read in metro so looks like they have went off McGeady if true. But if Liverpool get £8mill for Babel we can certainly get £10mill + for McGeady in the summer though.

Seems like the end of that then but I think it is clear Birmingham have something like £8m at least to be bandying around on a winger. Wonder if that's the figure we rejected?

 

Its been reported celtic have told them mcgeadys not for sale end of although as ive said before EVERY player has his price and i dont think anyone could complain if we got a silly offwer and sold him or anyone else for that matter but the good thing about being financially stable is we can choose

Sounds like pish mate, I can't see McLeish having the audacity to ask us to drop a £10 millions asking fee (where did that come from anyway?), when Mowbray said he's not for sale.

McLeish knows the score, he's been an OF manager & knows we won't sell on the cheap - if at all.

McGeady wasn't great last year for several reasons i.e falling out with the manager and imo the passing of Tommy Burns had a big impact on his drop in form and attitude. It would be stupid selling McGeady just now especially to birmingham. Aye there doin ok jsut now but what about next season? Could be in the relegation battle.
Think whats best for Celtic and Aiden is that he stays for the time being.
