I think Forrest is far more direct than McGeady but still hasnt proven himself over a long period of time. That isnt to knock him at all - just interesting to see if he can keep this level of performance up all season. At the moment he is almost carrying the team sometimes so hopefully when the team improve it might free up even more space for Forrest to exploit.

for the last couple of seasons, mcgeady was always man marked. everytime he picked up the ball,he had 2 men on him. we put too much pressure on the player, all our play was directed through him.it was like he was are only outlay, and teams played celtic, knowing if they stop mcgeady they would cut out most of our attacks.

hopefully we will protect young james in his development, and he will be a champions league standard player in a few years.

Aiden is just not the type of player that should be playing for the republic no one on the team has a similar level of skill and most of the play is long balls from back to front which is really dire to watch. I think he would be a much better player on the international level if he played for scotland (however ironic this may seem) who play a game based on more fluid ground passes

    Good point.
Combine this with an attacker on the left, be it Izzy or an attacking left mid and he will get even more room. No team will be able to double up on him because they will have to protect both sides. Pretty obvious really, not sure why Lennon hasn't put an attacker on both sides in Izzy's absence tbh.

We are on the verge of having a great team just needs a few more tweaks.

Spot on. If you look at Forrests' performances in the Europa games then it tells a different story because hes up against far better defenders.
I like his direct approach and his eye for goal. Forest and McGeady are two different types of player and cant be compared.

If Aiden McGeady was in our team just now he would score more I think, he was always double or triple marked as he was pretty much our only creative force for a long, long time.

Imagine Aiden McGeady with Izzy behind him and clever strikers with good movement in Hooper and Stokes. He would run riot, teams couldn't afford to just put 3 players on him and ignore the rest of the team.

mcgeady scored most of his better goals with his left foot and he was a right footed player :56:

Me tOO mate. When he was about to leave Celtic I didn't care how he got on in Russia. But as sOOn as he left and started playing I was happy to hear he was doing so well, still am.

Not bothered about him not playing for Scotland any more because we need to work as a team and while at Celtic I didn't think he done that.

Hope he fires Ireland into 2012 though! I want to go and support Sweden and Ireland in ma kilty :)

I think it's to early to compare to one another at the minute.

Aiden is far more experienced to James,i still think James has many years to go
before he reaches the level of Aiden

as for Balls you have to give credit to Aiden for going to Russia and making a name for himself, that says it all about his character

i think James has a better scoring ability and will form his very own style and path as years go by

great wee prospect, need to enjoy his ability while we still can as one day he will move on

I agree it is too early to compare and don't forget McGeady held his own in the Champions League against some of the best players in the world.

    Two different players!!!

McGeady, one of the most sublimely skillful players ever to play with Celtic or any else, but (not his crossing or passing) his shooting in good positions let's him down.

Whereas Forrest, who has not 25% of McGeady's skill, is brilliant when given a sniff of a shooting chance.

Good grief... he was (rightly) getting a mauling for doing the square root of * all for yonks, and then he scores two goals against Hibs and we're comparing him against McGeady!?

James Forrest has a LONG way to go... I would even suggest that he is not first-team quality yet!

If James keep performing at his current level for a couple of years then we can compare them .

And that would be a completely ridiculous suggestion seeing as he has been our best player so far this year pulling us out of difficult situations at kilmnarock and hibs and having a great game against motherwell. In addition to this we dont really even have anyone else to play wide right due to the fact that commons cant play well there even when he is on form and mccourt is also better on the left and brown is hu.rt right now

Think alot of people have forgot how good McGeady was. He won games single handedlyin EU. James is only 20 and is playing magic but still has alot to learn but it should be exciting to see what Forrest dose in the next few years if we keep hi

But hasnt done it against AC Milan, Benfica etc so there is no comparison at the moment, McGeady was supposedly going to Zenit for £27 Million so until we play CL and he performs on that stage there is no comparison.

One thing about forest is that if his pace went he wouldnt be half the player he is.
