Everyone knows how skillfull McGeady is but at the same age as Forrest he did nothing with it. It wasn't untill Strachans last year and Mowbrays that he started really contributing to the team. He said himself that he wasn't direct enough and a bit selfish. When he started focusing on his all round game he became a £10m man.

Forrest already has an incredible shot and probably a better delivery with plenty of skill too....imagine Forrest had the same target men to aim at as McGeady did?! I hope Celtic manage to hold on to him but it wont be long before the same cash is being mentioned.

Forrest up for player of the year this year or at the very least young player.

Time will tell, at Forrest's age Aiden was better but James has a few years until he reaches his peak and we can judge then. :celt_2:

What is the point in threads like this as the lad is playing really well yet there are folk criticising him because he may or may not be as good as McGeady.

What we should be talking about is that he is good enough to be considered a place in the team unlike others.

McGeady is gone, get over it . He wasn't that great anyway.

too many to choose a favourite, der all smashin!

Why are we comparing? Think the answer is obvious my self. Its the similarities that draws the natural comparisons. They both broke through our academy, looked head and shoulders above players of a similar age group. The positions are the same. And both play entertaining football. Now I love mcgeady, and truth be told of we was playing in a different league we may have got £15M+ for him. His end product frustrated the life out of me though. Generally his crosses and finishing was poor. Forrest however seems to have the same directness as mcgeady.but also gives a end product. This bhoy can be huge. For me am sure he will surpass mcgeady in terms of quality!

That's all well and good mate but does it not encourage "know alls" to come out and slate the lad when he is playing excellent because they do not think he is as good as McGeady?

I just say we should spend our energy getting behind the lad rather than comparing him.

Forrest has better balance and a bit more pace than mcgeady . But mcgeady's dribbling , technique , awareness is alot better in my opinion .

But fair play to wee forrest . Best player in the team by a country mile ad is only going to improve.

Theres not such thing as just "technique" theres different techniques like ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, crossing, set peice taking. Out of the different skills Forrest is better at all ball striking ones imo McGeady was only better at dribbling and controling the ball.

McGeady is faster though, fitter and stronger but at 20 compared to Forrest then Forrest is actually quicker, stronger and fitter than Aiden was at the same age.

Well, we all know how silly the transfer market has become but there's no way Mc Geady's a 20 million man. Transfer fees are not in themselves proof of quality. Mc Geady's ok but let's not get silly.

James could have the whole package if he works hard enough, tackling is an area he needs to work hard in.

We were discussing his worth? He is worth to Spartak what a team is going to pay for him as much as he was worth £9.5 million to Celtic as someone was willing to pay that.

I was championing Forrest on here literally years before he even made his debut, I know how good he is and can be. However, is someone willing to pay £9.5 million for him? They aren't and won't be until he has a few good seasons under his belt.

Forrest looked good last night but he is often anonymous in games. So yes, we will have to wait and see.

Some ain't giving McGeady the credit he deserves. He'd served our club quite a few seasons before he made his move to Russia.

Forrest is a gem, but he has to prove his worth over a few years first. That being said, he's the best talent since McGeady coming through our ranks.

Does anyone else get the impression the he will be here for pretty much all of his career? He doesn't strike me as the type to think that the grass is greener on the other side.

Impossible to tell, he still has to come out of his shell (no poetry intended).

Bolton were sniffing about in the summer already. If he gives us a season of his second half performance at Rugby Park and Easter Road the Premiership wll be calling sooner rather than later.

Comparing their time at Celtic I still maintain that Aidan was a great dribbler but not a very high quality footballer otherwise. Dribbling was the only thing he excelled at and the rest of his game was not great. I think that was true of his entire time at Celtic and I didnt see much improvement even by the end other than the fact he was taught to track back under Strachan. I dont really care about fancy footwork. It means nothing if it doesnt improve your end product. Forrest doesnt * about and he has an excellent end product. He is still developing though and doesnt look good against better defenders.

I used to care but I really now. I dont want Scots born people playing for Scotland who would even consider another country. He can do what he wants. I have never seen him play for ROI to be honest.

He's pretty much an automatic pick for the international team but he's frustrating to watch, to be honest. I'd like to see the likes of Stephen Hunt get a turn or Liam Lawrence, for example, who can hit a free kick. They're also not knocked off the ball as easily as Aiden.
