Matt O'Riley

  1. Had 12 ball recoveries, 2nd most on the pitch yesterday.

Unsurprisingly, Calmac had the most with 18. CCV had 11.

    Next was Davis with 10.

Best performance in a Celtic strip yesterday.

He’s a shoe in for the Danish national side, he is a ready made Eriksen successor and they’ll want to start cultivating that early doors.

  5. He just oozes class and ability, what a player. He has such magnificent vision and the skill set to pull of what he sees.

Sadly when he does go it won’t be for those £15-20m fees mentioned we should be looking at the very least to double that lower end value, with plenty of add ons too because I can see Matt going to the very top of the game.

Not to mention the tax of him being a home grown player for European purposes.

Tomorrow will be his first of 6 chances to show he belongs at that level.

  6. Riley McGree scored in a 1-0 win over Sunderland tonight, to move Middlesbrough up to 17th in the Championship. Good, nice.

Matt O'Riley will be testing himself against arguably the best team in Europe tomorrow night, in the biggest club competition in the world.

MATT O’Riley has revealed former Rangers centre half Russell Martin has become an avid follower of Celtic since he moved to Parkhead earlier this year and enjoys watching Ange Postecoglou’s side in action.

Ex-Scotland internationalist Martin managed the attacking midfielder during his two seasons in charge at English League One club MK Dons and has remained in contact with him since taking over at Swansea City last year.

He has been delighted at how well the London-born Dane has fared since being signed by the Glasgow giants for £1.5m back in January and regularly tunes in to the Scottish champions games to watch him in action.

I felt I was in a good place with my technical development when I was at Fulham,” said O’Riley. “I spoke to Scott Parker a lot when I was there. But Russell Martin is the one who I am still in contact with the most.

“He was a big influence on me at MK. He’s the first manager to really understand me as a player and more importantly as a person. I’m very fortunate I’m in the same situation here with the manager.”

He added: “Russell is happy for me. He tries to tune in to all the games, even though he’s a manager at Swansea.

“He loves watching and he’s a massive follower of my journey. Have I turned him in to a follower of Celtic? I don’t want to get him any stick as a former Rangers player! But we have a good relationship.”

O’Riley, who set up the opening two goals in the 4-0 win over Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday, is hopeful that he can develop his skills further at Celtic under Postecoglou.

“I am trying to improve every day,” he said. “If I am not doing that I don’t see what the point is. I go into training every day intending to try and come out of a little bit better. Hopefully that translates on the pitch.

“I feel like right now I am doing it. Hopefully at the end of the season the team and I are at a better level than we are just now because we want to keep improving.”

  10. Not at his best last night but also didn't have a bad game by anymeans. Think occasion maybe overwhelmed him a bit. Easy to forget how young he is and that this time last year he was playing in the EFL1.

Maybe on a night like this starting McGregor as an 8 and Mooy as our 6 and bringing O'Riley on later would have helped us. But that's me speaking with hindsight with how the game unfolded.

  11. Think we watched a different game I thought his first half was brilliant was pressing everywhere and then constantly wanting the ball

  12. Aye he was outstanding first half. Pressing off the charts, never gave the ball away, one brilliant challenge on Vinicius as he was breaking.

  13. Nah wasnt good for me, his pace I am worried about and for me that caught up with him.

Hes only young so improvement will. Be on the way.

Actually thought Mooy was miles better than him amd he was only on for a limited time and this was when Real were at it.

  14. Must have been. As I said not bad but had almost no impact on the game and his lack of pace showed. Hatate and McGregor were the stand outs in midfield by some way last night and even Hatate started to look burst by 60mins. Probably because he was having to work much harder to press a team of that intensity.

Thought he was the poorest of the 3 certainly. But still big games to come.

Kroos and Modric showed how to control a midfield second half. Our players will have learnt a lot.

The Danish midfielder has had nine terrific months at Celtic, which in particular in the media threw off a sea of rumors during the summer. Now he himself opens up about the interest.

Nine months ago, Danish-English midfielder Matt O'Riley played in League One.

Now he is Scottish champion with Celtic, and has just made his debut in the Champions League against Real Madrid. The beautiful holdings have also attracted massive interest during the summer.

Especially in the English and Scottish media, Matt O'Riley was linked with Liverpool and Manchester United. In the past, the midfielder himself has put modest words about the interest, but he becomes more specific to Tipsbladet.

    - I know that Leicester showed a lot of interest in me. And I think Newcastle were there too. But it didn't matter that any of them made an offer. If there is no offer, then it is not very concrete in my head, says Matt O'Riley to Tipsbladet, and continues.

    - I didn't really think about it because nobody from Celtic told me that, for example, Newcastle had made an offer. It wasn't like that, so there wasn't much to think about, and a lot is also written in the media.

However, the 21-year-old midfielder is happy that he is being reported in the direction of bigger addresses, even if it is not something that he spends time on right now.

    - It's great to get some recognition, because it means that I'm doing well at Celtic. But as I say, Celtic is the perfect place for me right now. It's a big club, we play in the Champions League, the fans are insanely good and the team is good. It's a perfect place to be, and I also think it's a good place to be if I want to go to the WC with Denmark.

Matt O'Riley, 21, has made seven appearances this season and provided five assists for the Scottish champions. Before the switch to Celtic in January, the Dane played for MK Dons in League One, and before that he was without a club after the break with Fulham.

The club tops the domestic league with maximum points after six rounds. They have scored 25 goals and conceded just one. Matt O'Riley has a contract with Celtic until the summer of 2026.

  18. Definitely sounds like he'll be off when the opportunity presents itself, and I don't blame him really. He's got his head screwed on well enough to know this season at least is best spent at Celtic Park. He'll probably leave next summer, likely with another couple from the squad. Not bearing to think about that just yet...
