If we couldn’t get the £30m we were after, I’m wondering if it would be worth a loan to one of these big clubs (EPL, La Liga etc) and then if he has a big season we could sell him for even more? We’d get a decent loan fee for him but would have to break the biscuit tin properly to replace him.

The risk being he doesn’t perform as everyone expects he will and we lose some value. In that case he can come back to us with 2 years left on his contract.

Would be a great fit for him, a club that seems on a consistent trajectory upwards.

Would be a great move for him. As someone has mentioned, would love a player plus cash deal.

£18-£20m plus Mitchel Bakker is where I’d be going.

    This.

Think he will be away for anything over £25m. Would be a great move that I would actually like to see if he is to go.

I dunno if only an EPL side could give us the fee we want though

Dreading the thought of him leaving but he deserves his move.

Hopefully get closer to £30m and hopefully spend it straight away :giggle1:

    I don't think we'll get 30 for him

I think we’ll accept £25 mil with a 15% sell on. Can’t see Atalanta paying £30 mil for him unfortunately. However this will definitely make a few other clubs who are keen on him being their offers to the table.

Celtic have rebuffed an Atalanta offer for Matt O'Riley.

Football Scotland can reveal the Europa League holders submitted a formal approach of £15million for the playmaker but talks were declined by the Scottish champions who are determined to keep hold of their star man. O'Riley hit 19 goals and provided 18 assists for the club last season and cleaned up at their player of the year awards. That has prompted clubs around Europe to take a closer look at the Danish international and the Serie A side tabled a bid.

It is believed La Dea are already plotting a fresh approach after their initial terms were turfed out. It comes after Brendan Rodgers made it clear he did not want to lose his midfield asset back in January when an offer was also knocked back from Atletico Madrid

Southampton are also said to be keen on the 23-year-old with former MK Dons boss Russell Martin interested in a reunion with his ex-player.
The Saints have just been promoted to the Premier League and have been touted as a possible destination for O'Riley should Celts consider a sale. £20million has been the suggested price for that deal, according to reports down south.

Atalanta, meanwhile, are bracing themselves to lose superstar Teun Koopmeiners who is wanted by new Juventus boss Thiago Motta

Laughable offer but least it gets the ball rolling, hopefully others may begin to show their hand and we can conclude sale quickly if this is whats holding up incoming transfers

That is an insult they will need to seriously up the ante to get us to even get to the table. It does however show it’s not just us that lowball.

Although given we booted out the Atletico higher bid I don’t know why you would come in under that.

Opening bid is always the same.

You never go in full whack. We always do it as well and moan like * about our board, so.

I'd expect them to come back with 20, which will also be rejected. If we get offered anything north of £25m I think that'll be it.

Atalanta has already started official negotiations with Celtic for Matt O'Riley, a left-footed midfielder [2000] with a contract expiring in 2027.
The talks between the parties are positive and in the next few hours the Italian club wants to try to get closer to the economic requests of the Scots.
The footballer, ready for a new adventure.

It may be the case he's agreed terms and it's just upto the two clubs to get the fee sorted.

If £15m is true they're some way apart.

I don't see Atalanta paying what we'd want for him but they have a lot of players that aren't first choice for them that'd improve us a lot. Bakker would be excellent here.
