think thats a good point. he picks out the players he wants and will try to sign them no matter the price. and to be fair, it works.

MARTIN O'NEILL is a legend. What a great result against rich Man City!
I have been searching about Celtic names and I found out O'Neill meant "grandson" or "descendant," of Neill- Gaelic name Niall which means "passionate" or "Champion" and Martin is a Latin name and it means "A warrior" . Well, his name really explains everything.
Martin O'Neill is the best manager in EPL. When Mourinho was Chelsea manager, I used to discuss with schoolmates who was the best.
It is easy to be a good manager like Fergie and Mourinho when you work in rich clubs and you can buy expensive players.

He seems to have the knack of getting players to give their all for him.

That is one of the best attributes a manager could have.

EPL Manager of the month. Sunderland already look a certainty to stay up comfortably.

Wish he was still our manager. Wonder where we'd have been by now...

His influence really is amazing. A lot of people put last minute goals down to "luck" but when a manager can get it from his players time and time again at different teams, it is something special. Absolute legend - would love to see him at a world leading team one day.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so apologise for bumping an old thread.

But the fact only jock stein and o'neill have won the treble in our so called 'two team league'speaks volumes.

The dark side have died and been away for years and we still haven't been able to achieve the treble, it's more difficult obviously than it looks on paper.

Ok MON spent big money but let's not forget rangers were also spending lots of money, which we have since learned they never had.

Point I'm making is, I don't think we appreciated martin enough when he was here. I'd take him back in the morning, with or without Roy keane.

I'd take back Martin but only if he had decent money to spend.

Felt he ran out of ideas a bit when the money dried up and it's well known he isn't a coach. If he had money to build a side though I'm sure he'd do a great job again.

He's taken Ireland to the Euros so that blows the "he's not a coach" myth out of the water.

Team of journeymen and he took them to the promised land.

As Sean has said how much has he spent in completely rejuvenating the Ireland squad ?

I get a bit teary eyed thinking about The O'Neil years. Legendary times.

I think he was appreciated though. I mean he replaced John Barnes, pumped Deadco 6 2 in his first OF game, won the treble straight away, retained the title, set a record of 7 straight OF victories, British record of 25 consecutive league victories, and then took us to the Eufa Cup final.

He was well liked for sure. :50:

We sang his name at every single game when he was Manager. He was certainly not unappreciated!
