I see the bit about Odegaard but hold on a minute...£3m in wages?!:97: I knew he'd be well paid but come on.

They have really pushed the boat out for him.

nesbitt and thomson aren't in his age group. He's playing a year above his age group with the u17's which is something that rarely happens. He also starred in the victory shield team that won that competition this season for the first time for scotland outright since 1999

6 year contract, works out at 9k a year.
Aye a lot for an 18year old in Scotland, but probably about the going rate for his talent/potential over there.
If the kid is smart enough, he will bank 2million of that, and gurantee he never has to work again, regardless what happens in his career.

3m in wages not bad for a player that got dropped by dundee utd for the second half of the season

Said he wouldn't rule it out....

RONNY DEILA last night insisted Celtic could make a sensational swoop for Stromsgodset wonderkid Martin Odegaard.

And the Hoops boss has made his first signing with keeper Craig Gordon penning a two-year deal.

The former Scotland No.1 will fly out today to join the rest of the squad at Celtic’s pre-season camp in Austria.

But while the chances of landing Norwegian youngster Odegaard looked to have been sunk after Deila’s replacement David Neilsen claimed the kid was destined for Barcelona, the Celtic boss – who made the midfielder a first-team regular at just 15 – is convinced he could bring him to Parkhead.

Deila said: “It’s incorrect to say that Martin is outwith our range. He must do what is best for him and we will do what is best for us – we’ll see if our paths meet at a later date.

“Martin is a good player but not even close to being a Celtic player at the moment. But there’s no doubt that he might be in the future.”

The Norwegian, preparing for his first match as Celtic boss in tonight’s friendly clash with Russian side FK Krasnador in Austria, is resigned to being without James Forrest for the Champions League qualifiers after the winger’s injury jinx struck again.

The 22-year-old pulled a thigh muscle in pre-season training and Deila said: “James is out for some weeks. We will see what happens in terms of the qualifiers. We will take it from week to week.

“I don’t want to rush James. He has been out for such a long time that he needs time to get his fitness up.

"I saw in training that he didn’t have the fitness needed to be consistent.

“When he is fit, then he can start playing games. He is a very explosive player. When you are in and out you can push too hard to get back and end up having to start all over again.

“It’s very important that we take our time with him and get out his potential. If it continues the way of the last year or two then that will never happen because of all the injuries.”

Winger Derk Boerrigter was also crocked last term and Deila admits he’s made a couple of wide men his top signing priority.

He said: “We don’t have so many options in terms of wingers. That is maybe the thing we have to look for first.

“Last season a lot of midfielders were used in wide positions. Finding another winger is some-thing we will look at.”

Most likely just *, but I'm liking the way the new boss is talking, claiming such players are not outwith our range.

He'd be mental to move to Barcelona anyway, he'll most likely not get a game, whereas with us he'd be working for someone he knows pretty well and could get some first team action.

Going by his reputation it seems that if he progresses much further he'll be outwith our reach. If Deila has identified him as a potential star we should be all over it.

I think we should leave him for at least another year or so. Even if he does continue to progress I could still see us bringing him here, especially with the Deila factor.

Buy him up as soon as possible, we can always loan him back for a season, but he really looks like he will be world class

Well the kid's got 18 months to run on his contract. It's not so long so i imagine they will have to sell him soon.

Looks older than 15, thought he was about 17/18 when I first saw him.

I'd be up for this. I wouldn't want to see him come here so soon and have to compete with 4 or 5 midfielders. Although Deila likes him and Odegaard sees him as a mentor, that doesn't mean he would walk into the side obviously. Ronny has said that himself sort of with the comment about him not being ready.

Getting him in and loaning him back for a season would be a good deal for both parties. We get a 'wonderkid' so to speak for a decent price and he is able to continue to develop and grow for another season in Norwegian football.
