Think this would benefit Odegaard and Real Madrid more than it would Celtic.

Only way we would genuinely benefit from this would be a bit more views on tv and a bit more interest in Spain and Norway (places I think we would have a decent amount of interest already - Barcelona link and Ronny/Johansen)

What it could do if it worked out, is larger clubs might consider sending their players to us to develop - I seen a quote from Belgium assistant saying that Denayers loan to celtic really helped shape him as a player, if the same happened to Odegaard then a few other clubs might take an interest - but again at the end were left with our players stalling in progression and no player at the end.

Would be nice to have the attention, would sell a few shirts, but I doubt hes going to walk into the team and lead us to the Champions League Final - we can win the league with the players we have in the squad, we don't really need a first team CM - we have plenty just now, so we should be developing Henderson.

Looks a tidy wee player going from that video of the norway sweden game... Keeps it simple, passes the ball and wants it back straight away... and showed at the end the skill he's capable of.

Would love to see him here, but doubt we will.... Looking forward to seeing this guy in the future.... Future ballon d'Or?..... who knows.

We could loan him for a season then back again the next season and then who knows maybe like with Forster after the second spell on loan Madrid could maybe not want him but I do doubt that since he will still only be 18 but maybe 2 seasons out of him or 1 even wouldn't be bad

It would be a good move for us I reckon. If nothing else he's very good back up for the first team (although I know Madrid will be expecting he gets a lot of game time wherever he goes).

Another thing is that he would more than likely go ahead of Liam Henderson in the pecking order. That won't be good for him unless we're planning on giving him to Rosenborg for another season.

If we don't get him, fine. If we do, I'll trust Ronny's judgement that it's the right thing to do.

i wouldnt think odegaard is any less physically imposing than forrest or GMS. his age doesnt make a difference in that regard.

what does make a difference is his ability which odegaard appears to have bags of.

ronny may have said that odegaard wasnt ready for our first team but that doesnt necessarily mean he meant it.

someone on here said that they 'only' saw odegaard being at johansens level so he shouldnt be walking into our first team ahead of any of our players....right, so a player who is at the same level as our player of the season, shouldnt walk into our team? * *......i mean, seriously?

odegaard coming here on loan would be a very positive move for a number of reasons. the best reason however, is showing young players that celtic can be a great club for them to come to and help them develop, and not just as loanees. a lot of the reason behind bhoyata signing for us on a permanent deal is down to what he has witnessed happen with denayer

Judging by their performances for Norway Johansen is still a better player than Ødegaard. Johansen is seven years older (at 23!) and far more experienced, he's stronger, has a better engine and is defensively much stronger than Ødegaard.

Ødegaard obviously has more potential, but that shouldn't matter that much to Celtic since we're not signing him permanently.

As a 26 year old guy I would feel like a bit of a weapon having his name on my top:smiley-laughing002:

I am not too keen on this deal. Looking ahead i reckon Stefan will be sold this time next year. With that in mind i reckon that Armstrong will be the man to move into the number 10 position long term, so if we rotate the 10 position this year then it should be Armstrong who fills in for Stefan. Odegaard also plays from the left meaning that he will be competing with Armstrong once again. This is a short term loan with no potential for a permanent deal at the end and it could also deprive players who will be future lynchpins game time now. This deal should be binned immediately.

So that looks like it's settled then. Martin Ødegaard will NOT be joining Celtic on loan.

Where would he fit in? He'd be a good option for us with the amount of games we have. But I don't see him pushing anyone out of the midfield.

I don't want this boy, he's too skillful.

We don't need quality, we need engines.

Plus, Stuart Armstrong's better than him. Real Madrid would have signed him at 16 but Dundee Utd kept him a secret

Real Madrid signed him because of his potential. Why would we get a player on loan just because in the future he will be world class? How good he is 2-3 years down the road wont help Celtic one bit.
