If he does retire I would love to have him next to John Kennedy.

When I read his comments, that was my first reaction too. Perhaps he's just a modest guy and doesn't want to sound too big headed. He certainly played like a modest guy, very quiet and just went about his business professionally.

It's been great to read all the nice messages in this thread. He probably won't, but I hope Mark Wilson reads this. I'd like him to know just how highly thought of he is by us fans. :celt_2:

Can't remember a guy ever getting so many well-wishes on his departure.

I'm genuinely gutted for him and think we coulda gave him a one-year appearance based contract.

Don't see why he couldn't have had a wee run out today, even off the bench for the last 20 minutes.

Defenders rarely get the star treatment that goalscorers get but l would like to have seen him sign on as back up as he could fill in along the whole back line. Unlucky with injuries but never let us down when he played and always appreciated by the fans.

Good luck wherever you end up. :shamrock:

He's going to be such a huge loss to the squad. Willo has been there and done it all with Celtic, since his move six and a half years ago. Last 16 of the CL, won several different domestic honours, played against some of the best players in the world and he's still only in his mid-to-late 20's.

I know it's been said a thousand times, but I wish him well wherever he goes. I've really taken to him in the past couple of seasons, overcoming all of those injury problems to serve his boyhood heroes. His commitment and passion is second to none.

    Thanks for everything, Mark :shamrock:

Crainey on the left and Willo on the right. Good stuff!

MARK WILSON hasn’t a clue what football holds in store for him after being freed by Bristol City.

At 29, the former Celtic and Scotland full-back should be at the peak of his career.

But Wilson admits his reputation for being injury-prone is haunting him.

He played just nine games for the relegated Championship outfit last season — and the irony is he has never felt fitter.

Wilson said: “I’m at home near Bristol hoping to get something fixed up for the new season.

“I fully understand what people may be thinking about me. Because I only played nine games last season, I’m sure people automatically assume I’ve been injured.

“I know playing so few games looks bad and I can understand people thinking I wasn’t fit.

“It’s true that when I was at Celtic I was injury-prone.

“The fact is though, last season’s probably the only one when I’ve been fully fit and available to play for the entire campaign.

“I’m bored stiff sitting around the house, but I’ve a son at school and we can’t really do anything until his term finishes.

“I had the chance to go to Philadelphia Union in the MLS, but it was only a six-month contract.

“I’ve got a family to think about and it wasn’t right for me.

“I’m in the game at the wrong time, in a way.

“Five years ago if you were released you could look forward to a move and big signing-on fee.

Thought he was a lot older than 29

Wilson is goosed, we should bring him back as a coach for the under 20s. He will never play regularly again and is really clutching at straws looking for a new club.
