Skysports.com understands Celtic are closing in on the signing of Barcelona midfielder Marc Crosas.
Crosas caught the eye of Celtic boss Gordon Strachan during Barcelona's recent tour of Scotland when the 20-year-old shone against Hibernian and Dundee United.
The highly-rated midfielder is well down the pecking order in Barcelona's star-studded first-team squad and he is keen to secure a move away in search of regular football.
Crosas had a spell on loan at Lyon last season before returning to Camp Nou in the summer.
Barca were keen to farm the youngster out on loan again, but it appears Crosas is keen on a permanent transfer away from the Spanish giants.
The news has alerted Celtic, Sevilla, Sampdoria and Sporting Gijon who are all keen on signing the defensive midfielder.
Celtic are locked in talks with Barcelona over a deal for Crosas and are hopeful of winning the race for the player as Strachan looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
    Communication

Crosas' agent, Angel Castell, has confirmed talks are ongoing between Celtic and Barcelona and that the player is interested in a move to Parkhead.
"I know the two clubs are still in communication about a deal," Castell told skysports.com.
"We are waiting to conclude everything and we are waiting on Barcelona.
"Celtic are very keen on signing Crosas, but there is also interest from clubs in Spain and clubs in Italy.
"I think it could be a permanent transfer as Marc does not want to go on loan again.
"Celtic are a very good possibility for him as they are always challenging for trophies and they also play in the Champions League.
"We hope to resolve his future soon."

    Latest from the BBC:

Celtic are close to completing a deal to sign 20-year-old Barcelona midfielder Marc Crosas.
But reports that a £2m fee has already been agreed between the clubs appear to be premature.
Agent Angel Castell told BBC Sport: "As of close of business on Friday, a deal was not done and I have had no confirmation since from Barcelona.
"Barcelona were thinking of a loan, but the player is keen on a transfer and is waiting to fly to Glasgow."
Castell believes that there are only a few small details still to be agreed between the clubs, which will disappoint Crosas' other suitors - Sevilla, Sporting Gijon and Sampdoria. But he stressed that the player had yet to discuss personal terms with Celtic, from whom the player would be hoping for a deal lasting at least three years.

remeber that not all players brought through the ranks at big clubs turn out well, this deal stinks of donati, young player ( ok donati's a bit older) being offloaded by a big club for a small fee,, but i suppose we'll have to wait and see, hopefully hes as good as some of you are making out but one things for sure, he's not at a good enough level to compete for even a back-up place in the barcelona squad which is surely not the callibre of player we want to signing if we are to compete at a hig level in the CL latter stages. We need to be signing players with higher reputation but WGS seems to be intimidated competing in higher sature transfers after getting his finger burnt with tommy G. So i say lets sign les donatis and more gravesons if we are to compete once again on a contintal level not just become the team in which the barcelonas and AC milans can offload their flops for hefty fees. CELTIC ARE BIGGER THAN THIS!

The guy impressed at Lyon - a team that have won seven consecutive Ligue 1s and do consistently well in the Champions League.

You have to remember who he is up against at Barcelona - Xavi, Iniesta and Toure to name a few.

... i realise i may have been a little irrational in my previous post and from what ive heard crosas seems to be the real deal but can you not see my point, for 2 million we could get someone with some oroven experience and track record instead of taking gambles i.e donati

Hey guys and girls this is my first post. I just wanted to make a point about the last Barcelona player to be loaned to a French team and then move to Scotland, Mikel Arteta. He was loaned to PSG and then signed for the dark side for what I believe was around £6million which shows that Barca will let highly regarded younger players leave for relatively little money. Barca churn out these deep lying playmaker types from Guardiola, Xavi, at the time Arteta was seen as a future possibility for this position and I'm sure Iniesta would like to play there in his ideal world. If this guy is next in line but can't get a game because of the other stars in his position I would hope Celtic would be the ones to profit. If we can sign a highly regarded Barca youngster for £2mil I think it is very low risk. Cheers.

I cant understand these comments saying we can get better for 2 mill or 3 mill !!!! Thats peanuts to the bigger leagues where the players with proven reputations play be reasonable yes we are a big club with a fine tradition and gret stadium and support BUT when players can earn double what we pay AND get better weather AND play in a higher profile league and lets not forget theres been players who have moved here and never been picked for their national team again just because they came to this country . Remember chris sutton had a track record and didnt make it at chelsea and thierry henry didnt make it in italy and schevchenko for 30 mil hasnt made it at chelsea so lets give the guy a chance

On Thursday the 31st of July 2008 it was revealed that Tamas was to sign a 3 year contract with Celtic after negotiations fell in the past couple of weeks. He will undergo a medical in Glasgow on Monday 4th of August and if all goes to plan he should be unveiled on Tuesday the 5th of August with Barcelona midfielder Marc Crosas

This is on Tamas player profile on wiki( i know it's not the most reliable but sounds good )
