Soccer / Haifa set to release Biram Kiyal to Scotland's Celtic
    By Eli Shvidler

Biram Kiyal will leave Maccabi Haifa for Scotland's Celtic within a matter of days, barring unforeseen circumstances, sources close to the deal said yesterday.

The midfielder - who will return to Israel today from Haifa's training camp in Bulgaria - has already agreed in principle with the dynastic Scottish club over the terms of his contract. Haifa officials were reportedly in constant contact with their Celtic counterparts, and gave their approval for the player to be released. Haifa is expected to take in 2 million euros in compensation for Kiyal's release.

Last season's runner-up had already informed the player it did not intend to keep him, and sources close to the transaction said yesterday that "unless something unexpected happens, this deal will be closed very soon."

Kiyal, 22, raised in the Upper Galilee village of Jdeideh, is a product of Haifa's youth system and has played on the senior squad since 2006. Since 2008 he has been a key member of the senior national team, with which he has logged 12 caps thus far.

finally we are bringing in midfielders that can score and are not afraid to shoot from the edge of the box.

1m would represent good business, and i expect crossas wont figure much this season.

This guy looks like a better version of scott brown imo. If we get him campbell, james, hooper and a lb i would be very happy and confident the league would be coming home this season. :50:

Was jsut about to post that. Cardiff can take Loovens no problem, and hopefully McGeady can give us a bit of cash.

Now this Isreali lad I know nothing about but a young lad, apparantly very talented is worth a shot in my book. But who in midfield is for teh chop?

I think Ferry is an obvious one and maybe Crosas.

:56: I hope this guy doesnt realise before he signs that we have an annoying element of fans who stick their noses into the politics of Israel/Palestine (despite knowing * all).

oh, that may simplify things but it will be really sickening to see the usual suspects wheeling out the flags for him despite knowledge of the situation you could write on a stamp.

Stop associating Middle Eastern politics with Celtic Football Club (aimed at those who fly Palestinian flags). Take your Palestinian flags to Argyle Street and protest there.

As for the player, I know nothing of him.

Celtic make £1.2m bid for Maccabi Haifa midfielder Biram Kayal

Jul 23 2010 By David McCarthy and Scott McDermott
CELTIC were last night closing in on yet another summer buy as negotiations began with Maccabi Haifa for the £1.2million signing of Israeli international Biram Kayal.
The capture of the 22-year-old who plays in a holding midfield role, would be Neil Lennon's sixth signing as he gears up for an assault on the SPL championship and a crack at Champions League qualification.
Maccabi Haifa last night confirmed Celtic have made an official approach for Kayal, who has 12 caps.
As Celtic flew back from their pre-season tour of North America, chief executive Peter Lawwell was trying to thrash out the deal ahead of last night's midnight signing deadline for the Champions League qualifier against Braga next week.
Maccabi president Jacob Shaha said: "Celtic have approached us about Biram but they are not the only club interested in him."
Lennon has signed Joe Ledley, Charlie Mulgrew, Cha Du-Ri, Efrain Juarez and Daryl Murphy since taking over the job on a permanent basis. Kayal looks certain to become his sixth recruit and the Irishman isn't stopping there. Meanwhile, Aiden McGeady is losing his race against the clock to be fit to face Braga on Wednesday.
Despite having been sidelined for two weeks with a thigh injury, Hoops boss Lennon hoped to play the winger in the friendly at Lincoln tomorrow.
However, Record Sport can reveal McGeady will not feature against Chris Sutton's side
