So our reputation is ruined because Lee O’Connor hasn’t made his debut...

Dembele, VVD, Armstrong, Wanyama, Forster, Tierney etc must be wondering what could’ve been if they hadn’t played here.

We are stockpiling very good young players, there is no competitive reserve or u23 football, who ever is organising these loans is brutal and the first team management are extremely slow to utilise the squad even when we are 4-0 up at home and edoaurd is left on till the 87th min. Luca connell has essentially done nothing the last year bar training and a couple of academy friendlys and he is within a big pool of players

I agree about Connell. He was playing games for Bolton when we signed him, so he really should have been loaned out for a season and played every week.

On the O'Connor loan move. I was baffled that he was sent to Partick Thistle given his reputation and how pish they are. But as far as I can tell, he never really stood out there. If he's as good as you think he is then I'd have thought he'd have looked a class above that league.

Very well could be keeping him close by and that he could continue to live where he was living. I'd imagine he was really still only settling adapting to Glasgow 3/4 months when he went to partick

Clubs like City and Chelsea who use loans to develop their youth players have a guy in charge of that. If we are looking at this route of signing young guys on these cross boarder deals I feel we should have someone in charge of that too whether it's Hammond or someone working under him who's remit is to get these kids out on suitable loans and monitor their progress while also looking after them.
It's a good route to go down as Frimpong has proved but not everyone is gonna make that impact straight away and could do with being set up with a good loan deal to help them develop. Luca Connell and O'connor being perfect examples. Pretty sure if we had someone speaking to bottom 6 premiership and top half of championship clubs and alerting them to the availability of the Ireland u21 captain or a kid that played a dozen games for Bolton in championship most would bite the hand off for them.

Between O'Conner and connell I expected to see connell sooner.

What's actually happened with him the last 12 months? (Covid aside).
How does he go from a regular in the championship to not seeing a minute of action for us?

Did he take a big injury that I've forgotten?

We do it all too often, where we sign players who clearly have something and are playing regular then seem to assume they aren't ready for our match day squad for at least 6 months.

Not going to say our reputation has taken a battering, but it is worrying and doesn't send out a good image.

It's alright saying look at dembele and Édouard, but they are both unique talents and already had something about them that was clearly above Celtic.
But for us to entice 18-20 year olds from championship, we will struggle if they are going to see the likes of Luca and Lee being "wasted".

Not going to encourage a championship level youth player to come here to sit with our reserves, when they are already good enough for a championship club.
They may as well stay where they are another year doing well and a prem club will come in (if they do have what it takes) rather than waste a year in our reserves, stagnate and maybe get a break in season a year later, to then probably be sold back to a championship club.
    Two years wasted.

Or a player coming from a top 6 team, supporting clubs aside if you were a player from big club being released 18-22 and you were offered to derby or Celtic having been released from say Liverpool you would be crazy to pick Celtic currently.

    Agreed

Seems unless you're being signed as a first team player on a first team wage - aka dembele and Édouard - then the toss of the coin is to come to Celtic on the half chance you break in to a squad, or go play a full season in the championship.

For a non Celtic fan, you are more likely to pick the championship club after seeing how the careers of some have stagnated.

Frimpong breaks that trend a little, but that's the risk folk are going to take, to get that sort of luck, or just knuckle down at a championship club.

For me, I don’t want any player signing for us who doesn’t believe in their own ability enough that they’ll break into our team. If a player doesn’t believe that they’ll never make it at us

I wouldn't say it's about not believing in their own ability, I'd like to believe they all do at this level, but more about who gets them more game time and who's going to progress their career more.
2 years full game time in English championship, or two years maybe breaking in to Celtic, maybe no breaking in to Celtic, maybe loaned to thistle, maybe left to the reserves...

Ability aside you still need to be given the opportunity and opportunity drips down through the club, so if jullien ajer brown McGregor Forrest and edoaurd are playing every game and for 90 minutes the opportunity that bayo and the first te subs get is diminished, if their minutes are diminished what hope does the young players have. I do understand though that they are at a club that have to win every game currently, but I just can't comprehend how 4 days before a European game we can be 4-0 up and edoaurd only gets taken off in the 87th minute

Oh yeah the rotation side when we’re up * me off too. But I do think it’s up to youngsters to force them self into the managers plans also. You said yourself they’re at a club that’s expected to win every week, most players can’t handle that whether that’s experienced or inexperienced. Up to the player to show their worth in training or for the youth team.
