I agree i think that a loovens - wilson partnership would be decent and when he is confident loovens is a decent defender, once loovens is back fully fit my choice of the 3 main CB would be mulgrew, wilson, and loovens, with rogne and maj as backup.

Not totally convinced with rogne in the times i have seen him play and he can't string a run of more than 6/7 games in a row at the moment with his injury problems.

Loovens is a much better option than Maj but I would still rather sell him

Mulgrew and Wilson in the middle with El Kaddouri on the left, assuming that the LB is decent

I would agree with that. Wilson, Loovens, Mulgrew as the main three centre backs, with Rogne,Wanyama and Maj as back up. Still not really convinced by Rogne because I think he is like Bambi on Ice, and Jelavic roasted him in the CS Cup Final. Wilson has never played against Jelavic before, but Loovens has, and he played Jelavic very well, so I think we have to bring that into our considerations.

We are really letting out standards drop if we are waiting on this guy to get back into the side. As stiff as a corpse, he is hopeless and is as clumsy a centre back as I have seen.

More than happy to have a Wilson/ Mulgrew or Wilson/ Rogne pairing. Wanyama isnt a CB either, played there and looked a bit lost in my opinion.

He was nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe but then neither is Maj.

Neither are the answer medium to long term.

You keep on casting up the League Cup Final against Thomas Rogne and saying you don't trust him because he had a poor game that day. Yet on the other hand you completely ignore the fact that Kenny Miller tore Glenn Loovens a new * at Ibrox.

Rogne did get a roasting in the League Cup Final but I'd still trust him over a guy like Loovens who's weak as * in the tackle and has let Celtic down on numerous occasions.

Agree. Rogne was brought back from injury far too early for that game and played because Lenny didnt trust a fit Loovens. Up till that game I would say that Rogne was probably our most consistent CB. I like his style. He is no nonsense. Wins his headers and goes in for his tackles.

Rogne has been hung out to dry by far too many fans. Yes he has played badly but then which 20 year old centre half doesn't?

He is big and raw and has allsorts of potential, I think some forgot his age and vast lack of experience.

    I agree.

I think because Thomas Rogne looked so solid and composed in his first few appearances for Celtic that some fans maybe set the bar for Rogne a bit too high and expected he'd play that way all the time.

Rogne is still only 20 so he's got a lot of learning and improving still left in him. The key thing with Rogne is that he DOES have the potential to be very good. He lacks pace but he's a good tackler, he's good in the air and he's quite composed with the ball at his feet.

He's a player I really hope to see more of this season and in future seasons. If only the guy could stay fit.

TBH, I think we shouldbe discussing who will Charlie's partner, not Wilson's. To me he has been excellent since coming into the team, especially when playing centre half. Mulgrew also gives us somthing different with his set pieces, he has a deadly left peg.

As much as I like Charlie, and agree that he should possibly get a slot beside Wilson, we need our defenders to defend first and foremost. If they can offer something else then that is a bonus but shouldnt be a factor in his playing Centre Back. Him alongside Wilson, or Rogne alongside Wilson would both be good pairings.

Loovens, Maj arent up to the task for me. Too error prone. Wanyama isnt a centre back.

When Rogne is fit he should play alongside wilson

There is a consensus that Loovens plays better if he has a decent CB to partner him, so him & Wilson could work.

Having said that can we afford to take that chance?

Mulgrew has performed admirably at CB and we have clearly brought in the LB for a reason.

For me Glenda makes the bench at best. Hopefully Maj will sort himself out as well as we need as many 'on form' players as possible!

maybe because with izzy injured we need cover for Mulgrew as first choice.
The fact that Loovens started the first game of the season, and a lot of last season is a hint that he is first choice ahead of maj, rogne, charlie et al.

We might not like it, he might make a lot of errors and get caught out by pace. But at the moment I think Wilson and Loovens are the starting pairing, and for me probably the best pairing.

Not having a go but hard to say who is the best pairing right now, as we have had injuries which have affected things.

Both Glenda and Izzy have injuries which have caused our defence to be chopped and changed, so it's possible that our best pairing are yet to be identified due to a lack of playing time together.

If Wilson & Mulgrew play together for a few games and perform well then people will say they are the best pairing, equally if Glenda gets his chance and performs well alongside Wilson - right now there's no best pairing, as we've yet to find out!

Here's hoping we don't suffer in the discovery process!!!

    Hail Hail

Loovens is one of the few players we have who is one error away from a slaughtering from a huge number of fans on talkceltic. As I've said, I'm not a fan of the player but towards the end of last season and the first couple of games this year, he's looked really good.
