You don't let the best player in the world (and possibly the greatest players ever) leave at the age of 26 because "he's getting too big for his boots" :56:

I know that, most of the world knows that but this is Barcelona. They have history with this

You have to question how someone already so wealthy (raking it in in advertisements and what not) can become so greedy.

The first few posts from Mystic Penguin in this thread makes Jim Traynor's succulent lamb article look unbiased

A doubt they'll let the greatest player ever leave just because he wants a few extra million a year when he's still so young.

He is being a greedy * but why not most top players are. He'll be at Barcelona for a very long long time to come.

Indeed. Best leaving the money in the pockets of the suits and those who run the club I guess.

    Messi will never leave Barca.

He fits them like a glove. I can't imagine him anywhere else, nor in any other league. Not to mention - who can afford him?

I suppose it's all relative though, he's the best at his job in the world so he demands a higher wage than other players who are also paid ridiculous sums of money. The game has gone crazy.

No chance he'll be leaving and rightly so. Barcelona's always been the ideal club for him.

Man City or PSG will eventually offer him the chance to be the first £1million a week player.

No chance, that would mean he would earn £52m a year. That is financial suicide. :smiley-laughing002:

Maybe we should try it as part of my plan to think of fun ways to spend money.

Then sign sign someone else and pay them a penny more just to make him feel bad about himself.

I've always wondered - when they talk about players earning £x per week, is that over an entire year or just the duration of the football season?

Weird to think this is the last World Cup were both Messi and Ronaldo will both be at their best.

I always forget that Cristiano is 29, he still looks about 22/23.

Messi is only turning 27 though, so this might not be his last great World Cup. He will only be 31 at the next one in 2018.

    I know.

I prefer Ronaldo but he'll decline quicker probably because he mostly relies on pace.

Don't know how long we'll get out of Messi though, hopefully doesn't pull a Ronaldinho.

I honestly think Messi can have another two good world cups. His next one he will be as good as now (although this is his peak). Kind of like Zidance was at 34 in 2006.

Ronaldo, I'm not sure. He is uber athletic and can probably play top class for another 4-5 years but what style?
