& why did Neil Lennon feel the need to come out with this statement this week.. despite the unbelievable backing he had.. without anything in the trophy cabinet???

But constantly raking up part of history where Britain and Ireland were in conflict seems a bad idea especially considering that relations between the two countries has never been so good. Its like going to Germany and constantly bring up the war. Reminds me of the Faulty Towers episode The Germans. Even on a personal level if you get on well with someone but there was some bad fall out in the past, then you dont constantly bring up an old dead issue. There are people who will spout the dogma that the war is not over until Ireland is united but the bottom line is a referendum of all the Irish people agreed that the status of NI will only change when a majority in NI want it. The Irish government enshrined that in law and the Irish people voted for this by a huge landslide. So, there is no war, political or otherwise. The mechanism for change is set in law and agreed in a referendum and is likely going to simply be about numbers.

That is not the answer to the question I put to you.

Drag us down to the huns level? A DISGRACEFUL comment from ANYONE who has ever sang a rebel song, or still enjoys them. Clearly by this comment you class rebs and songs of ethnic cleansing, peadophillia-gloating and racism - which is truly appauling on your part...but then again i expect nothing less from a person who's posts change in stance from one week to the next:rolleyes:

He came out this week because we got reported for the IRA chants at tynecastle and the club are being preemptive releasing a statement before we get pulled up for it.

singing rebel songs at football grounds alienates a lot of support and sympathy from the wider community at large. it lessens the welcome many people experience when coming along to watch celtic. i think that was the point lenny was trying to stress a few times.

we have no reason to stop singing irish songs just the rebs which should be kept for the pub.

After seeing this post from you * knows how many times, I should actually point out to you that if these songs are good enough to be banned from CP (which will be backed by Strathclyde police IF Celtic express this), then they will be outlawed in public houses as well.....

Its the way game thing I dislike. It actually would be better if those songs were sung at home rather than away games but the reverse is generally true. Away grounds in central Scotland are not the place for these songs.

you can pretend it doesnt drag us down to the huns level. that's the perception whether you like it or not by the wider community at large and the media.

judging from the desperate measures your relying upon to discredit my position on this matter I think you already know you have lost the argument.

anyway, we've both made our positions clear on the matter so that's that.

Yeah so to make friends with everyone else we have to hide our own identitiy is that it?...cos thats what most of the anti-rebels (as i shall know call them) argument boils down to.

Let me tell you, there is NOTHING desperate of my comments, nor have I lost any any argument (which would seem the opposite as you asre the one attempting to end it:rolleyes:)

Do you really think what I and others care what the wider community THINK (think being the subjective word here).

You're comments reek of those pandering to Scottish media etc.

Anyway, I've made my points in regards to you and your hypocritical comments......

BTW.....do you still think Commons is a shitebag?

Most of our songs are about the rising of 1916.

and the irish war of independence

Anyone who finds songs about these events offensive is a * hole in my opinion.

Good luck trying to get the media on side, it would take more than not singing a few Irish rebel songs. They try to discredit our club at every turn, where have you been this season?

I can't help but agree with this comment.

Aiden McAnespie had nothing to do with any paramilitary groups, or operations......was an Irishman murdered by British forces.........would any of you dare call someone a moron or an idiot for singing this song?

no your wrong there. the police will only enforce the law not what celtic want.
under the terrorism act any songs/add ons/shouts etc which glorify the pira/rira/cira are outlawed but the IRA are not.
unless legislation changes the same goes for public houses. songs about the ira are not illegal.
clearly celtic dont want the rebs sung at grounds because they are an anachronism and an embarrassment to 21st century Celtic who dont want to be dragged down to the huns level in the eyes of the general public, media etc

our irish heritage and culture expressed in song at celtic park can be done in a warm and friendly manner by singing non reb songs. that's just common sense.

After what the Queen has done this week it would be offensive to BAN songs about the Irish Wars of Independence

the reb songs are the only stick they have to beat us into the same gutter as the huns. we might not be as bad as them but the rebs are clearly seen as distasteful and an anachronism especially now the war is over. we're being seen as being stuck in the past just like the huns.
