    What pish.

Did it ever occur to you that some people started supporting the hoops at an age when they were more concerned with playing football in the playground and idolising Henrik Larsson than the intricacies of Irish political history.

I love Celtic and I won't be made to feel guilty about my refusal to sing about terrorists and politics. Poor show.

Im not trying to make you or anyone feel guilty about not wishing to sing Irish Republican songs ... but neither should anyone (including Lennon) be trying to make me feel giulty for doing something that Celtic supporters have always done..

And by the way the IRA were not terrorists get your facts right & no need to come on saying someones opinon is pish cos you dont agree with it.

If that's me you are referring to I was merely highlighting to a fellow poster that whether or not he liked it he was british, as am I.

I consider myself Scottish, but cannot escape the fact that I am legally a British citizen.

Don't think I'm attacking anyone either mate, defending myself from being told I should find another club if I don't agree with singing rebels. (Which is pish, don't mind the rebels if people want to sing them but am averse to the IRA material which has no place in football/society)

We've debated this to death but I could never class anyone who blows up innocent men, women and children as 'freedom fighters'. There is never any justification for such actions.

And, in case I am misunderstood, I wholeheartedly support the republican cause, but not always the means with which it has been pursued.

You're the type of person that would tell someone Irish from the North they are British whether they like it or not.
I dunno what you expected when you started supporting Celtic but I don't see why we should have to stop singing certain sngs just because some folk decide it's wrong and call the fight for Irish freedom "terrorism".

Lennon's statement has made more publicity than the actual songs being sung.

he has highlighted the "problems", and now the world will be under the impression, that the songs we sing are unacceptable,

i'm actually not happy lennon has come out and said this.

Would you class al-qaeda suicide bombers as terrorists or freedom fighters?

    There's no contradiction here.

I believe Ireland should be a republic free from British rule yet don't approve of some of the IRA's actions throughout it's various incarnations and facets.

    Is that hard to understand?

Totally agree. Lennon must have meant the chants at tynecastle. The guys calling for an end to rebel songs should give up now because it just ain't going to happen. You can't change what the club is just because a few over sensitive unionists don't like it.

We also won't face sanctions because the songs are not bigoted or racist. They are rebel songs about historic events.

Im not happy with him either.. after the unbelievable backing he has had from our fans even with the way his team blew that league.. well to him to come out with this today has left a bad taste in my mouth.. he needs to concentrate on the mistakes that cost us to throw away the league this season more than what we are or arent singing.

The vast majority of our fans have backed him unconditionally this season ( something that i have got into a few arguments on here about) & this is what they get in return!!!

Give it a rest. You'd think the man had jumped ship to Rangers.

He's rightly telling the fans that some of their songbook should be left at home.

That's fair enough and I respect your honesty.

I acknowledge the subjectivity of the term "Terrorist".

Ultimately, this will divide opinions for the foreseeable future.

you "wholeheartedly support the Republican cause " yet you come out with the old "killing men women & children" & "terrorist" quotes ... not hard to understand its a contradiction.

Not really. You can wholeheartedly support a cause and still disagree with the actions of a group that champion that cause.

Again, fairly simple I would have thought.

Ok we will agree to disagree.. im not telling people what to sing or what not to sing.. i will keep on singing the songs that generations have sung at Celtic park before me... songs that "wholeheartdly back the republican cause" & songs that do not attack other clubs faith or race...if you or anyone else dont think its your cup of tea thats your right you dont have to join in i never told you to go support another football club i just pointed out that thats the way Celtic fans have always been & imo always will be thankfully..

There'll be nothing to publicise if we stop singing said songs. There's no point pretending a problem doesn't exist just because it's small in size. We do sing songs that don't belong in football and we shouldn't wait until we get sanctioned to take action (like the huns did).

We never got sanctioned because our songs arent sectarian!!! why cant people on our own support not understand this???
