He was in great form from the start of the season to around the Anderlecht game, his form seemed to dip after that..

The reason Rodgers isnt convinced is because he wants "physical presence" up front. Thats what this all about, Griffiths is too small for Rodgers liking. We are lucky enough to have a player in Dembele who is a physical presence and has a lot of ability. These type of players are hard to come by which is why he will attract a high transfer fee. Dont bank on Rodgers being able to find another player like Moussa when he leaves. There is every chance Rodgers we will end up playing a "physical presence" up front to suit his "football philosophy" but with half the ability and finishing prowess of Griffiths.

Sorry id rather see a great wee talented player like Griffiths who can find the net in almost every game over some lump who can "hold the ball up" and "rough up defenders". As I say we got lucky with Dembele its just a pity he looks like he can only be arsed when he feels like it, something that could never be said for Griffiths who gives his all every time he pulls on the hoops.

Brendan Rodgers has hailed Leigh Griffiths as the Celtic striker edges towards the 100-goal mark for the club.

Griffiths netted his 96th goal for the club when he came off the bench on Tuesday evening to score the winner at Firhill.

The Hoops manager has been criticised at times by the Celtic support for overlooking the striker at times but he was fulsome in his praise of the stats enjoyed by the former Hibs forward.

“It’s 96 goals in 120 starts which is phenomenal, an incredible ratio,” enthused Rodgers.

“He’s a fantastic goalscorer, from 25 yards in he’s sensational really. He would have started against Brechin but was injured for that.

“We felt we had to nurse him into the game the other night but the plan was always to get him on at some point. But his energy is great and it worked well for us having players around him.

“He took his goal really well. Inside the box or outside, he knows where the goals are. His numbers and stats all point to that.”

Ironically, Hibs are the only top flight club that Griffiths has not scored against – “he supports them, doesn’t he?,” joked Rodgers – but in all seriousness Celtic can expect a robust afternoon against Neil Lennon’s side this afternoon.

Can't recall seeing anyone saying he's been in brilliant form.

I agree too not on the greatest form.

But of all our probably our best hope as he's here for the long haul unless we * him right off. I prefer Moussa, but longevity wise Griff is the one to keep.

While Griff has flaws being huffy/self centered clearly isn't one of them.

    Eh?

Did Griffiths not throw a public strop at Firhill last season because Rodgers had the audacity to bring him off, a couple of days before the Scottish Cup Final?

Throwing a tantrum at Firhill springs to mind. I also remember him looking pretty irritated in a Cup Final when he came on for the last few minutes. Didn't look too happy, and wasn't really taking part in the celebrations. He also tweeted something along the lines of 'No Dembele, no problem' after the Rangers game, in reference to Ian Crocker's commentary earlier in the season.

Remember when he scored recently against someone, can't remember who, and he was giving it 'I'm the * man' to the fans or 'I'm still here' or whatever he said.

I think he basically likes being important, and doesn't like it when he's not the main man. That's the point I was making. I don't see anything wrong with any of the above, apart from the incident at Partick Thistle.

Suarez is a kind of phsyical presence in that he presses like mad, constantly puts defenders under pressure and is always breathing down their necks.

Obviously Griffiths’ not in the same bracket as Suarez but you pretty much summed up Leigh off the ball there.

Aye agreed, Griffiths is always putting pressure on opposition defenders. Different kind of physical presence to the traditional Hartson style, but the way Suarez and Griffiths do it puts the same type of pressue onto them.

Stream cut, did he injure himself scoring the goal, why'd he go off?
