Not this pish again. Stats don't lie, so how anyone can argue with his record is beyond ridiculous. So he's missed a few chances. Tell me someone who's not?

The work he does off the ball to get into these positions, whether he scores or not, is excellent. The facts are, for Celtic, he scores almost every time he starts for us.

I noticed you brought up Tony Watt again too (who missed an easier chance you'll never get all season). I guarantee that if you asked any manager who's worked with both players, who they'd rather have in their team, there's only 1 winner. I'll give you a clue: the man has scored more goals in one season what the other one his whole career. :50:

So if you had the option you would drop griff and play one of them in his place.....?

But what's the point of doing all the work to get into those positions in the first place if he's going to keep missing the big chances in front of goal? Seems to defeat the purpose really.

Of course he's going to score more often than not in a Celtic shirt, he is a decent domestic SPFL striker and that is the level we play at mostly. And with the amount of chances we create at that level of course he's going to take them. But do you not think if we had Kane Hemmings or Adam Rooney up front they wouldn't take their chances and score goals regularly for us domestically either?

The point is, does Griffiths have enough attributes to his overall game to lead our attack and is he clinical enough in tighter games where chances are much more limited in front of goal to be our number 1 striker?

    For me no.

    Yes, without question.

As I've said, both have much more to their overall game and both much clinical in front of goal in tighter games where chances are more limited.

Hooper for sure for me in front of Griffiths and if Guidetti would sort his attitude out then again yes for too. Both would be ahead of Griff.

You stick to your guns, ya big stubborn *, I'll give you that :50: :smiley-laughing002:

Regarding the post though, no, I don't think they would. When was the last time we had a goal scorer with the stats as close to Leigh? If it was as easy as you think (a Hemmings/Rooney), we'd have had a lot more with they stats, surely? It's a lot different making the step up to a team like us, from another team. Not everyone is capable but Griffiths certainly stepped up to the plate and absolutely smashed it.

He's scored at every level he's played and he's created goals at every level he's played. He'll keep on doing this as well... We've no reason to doubt him, really, have we?

Hoopers attitude left alot to be desired alot of the time as well. Couldn't wait to leave as he thought he was a shoe in for England. Never got as much as a sniff.

Hooper scored what, 2 goals in the CL groups? I'd stick a few quid on Griffiths equalling or scoring more than that if we make it past this Israeli mob.

Guidetti has only once scored more than 10 goals in a season. On what basis would you play him ahead of Griffiths?
Theres more to being a striker than being able to finish alone.
Workrate, movement, control, fitness levels, strength.. Guidetti was blowing out his * by the 60th minute half way through a season.

Has Guidetti ever been in bother with his attitutde?

Griffiths has flaws in his game and yesterday he highlighted them. He himself admitted later on Twitter he played poorly. Sometimes you do need to look beyond the stats, if we're going by stats alone, then Kris Boyd was better in Scottish Football than Henrik Larsson. Which couldn't be any further removed from the reality.

Griffiths missed a very good chance which he should have scored(and on another day it could be a different outcome in terms of the final score), considering he did score 40 goals last season after all.He did however set up the winning goal by doing something he didn't do much of yesterday, making the right decision. In my opinion, it's an area in his game he can vastly improve and make himself a better player.

You can tell there are a few people who frequent this thread that have been playing a bit too much Football Manager :smiley-laughing002:

The reality is that despite all of Griffiths apparent flaws, he's our most prolific goalscorer in recent times, still has his best years ahead of him, is getting better at an alarming rate from what is already a high level, appears to have taken the club and fans to heart, pretty much handed us the league title last season and is an absolute work horse to boot.

The compare him to Tony Watt is plain daft in all honesty, there is a chasm between them. To say that it's easy to bag 30-40 goals a season is quite insulting to pretty much every striker who has pulled on a Celtic shirt in all honesty, it makes light of what is actually a very difficult and rare achievement.

We're lucky to have the guy and I want to see him here for the long term, and I'm looking forward to seeing him lead the line in the CL this season.

At the end of the day, look at the amount of strikers we have bought over the past 10 years.

According to their stats, off of Wiki, they scored a grand total of 343 in 942 league matches, costing us a bawhair off £30 million in transfer fees alone (good few frees/bosmans in there also).

Once you take into account agent fees, wages etc etc - Through the roof.

Take out Skippy and Hooper, the guys with the best goal-to-games, and you've only got 229 in 759 league games. 0.3 goals a game.

Going back all the way to '04 we have signed a load of strikers, some more impressive than others, on loan. Henri Camara, Craig Bellamy, Jermaine Aliadiere, Diomansy Kamara, Robbie Keane, Pawel Brozek, Miku, Jo Inge Berget, John Guidetti. 41 in 97, 0.42 a game.

Take Keane and Bellamy out, and it works out pretty much the exact same goals-to-games, as you get when taking Skippy/Hooper out, 0.31 a game.

Leigh Grithiths, a million quid, 56 in 73 league matches, 0.77 a game.

And as for the argument that Kane * Hemmings and Adam Rooney could do the same job, not likely. They would be in the same cluster as all the other pish strikers we've had, the 0.3 per game brigade.
