3 goals in 4 games this season. 3 assists too.
Playing all the games as an attacking midfielder. I reckon that's his best position. For sure he's been a bit inconsistent and £2million is too high a price.

Looks like peterborough will be dicks to deal with, so i wouldn't get too concerned about him coming in. For round about £1million, it's a good deal - for 2, it's probably not gonna happen, but i can see why we would look at him.

Goals 4 and 5 in the league cup against Colchester. Both good goals. Especially his first, controls a difficult pass with his left foot, curls it into the top corner with his right foot.

That to me is the sign of a good player, and it looks like he's lost a bit of weight too.

He's not a bad player at all, would do an okay job in the SPL but would make no impact in Europe.

Always thought he's okay but he is not a Celtic standard and doubt we're interested.

Looks decent enough, but I'd prefer to play our own young strikers instead of picking up guys like this.

Well this is true T, but just how many of our players were of champions league standard before last season?

If he's good enough for the SPL that would do for me, but not for the price being quoted of £2million. That's a bit steep i reckon, but he certainly likes scoring from range into that top corner.

A higher standard? So the Scottish Premiership is equivalent to League 2? If that's how highly we regard our game here now, English football fans will probably have us playing at NPL Division One North level. :smiley-laughing002: The (Scottish) Premiership isn't great but it's certainly a step up from League 2 from what I've seen of both leagues.

Anyway... Would I prefer us to sign a player who has been prolific in one of the top leagues in Europe e.g. Finnbogason in the Eredivisie? Obviously, I think everyone would but I'd be equally happy for us to sign a really talented player from a lesser league. I just don't think Lee Tomlin is anywhere near good enough for Celtic - and that's not just based on stats. I'd also rather look at the top flights in Scandinavia, Eastern & Central Europe (players from leagues in these parts of the world rarely find it difficult to adapt to our game) than the lower leagues of English football where we'd very likely have to pay more in both transfer fees and wages for a player of equal ability to one playing in the Allsvenskan, Superligaen, Ekstraklasa, etc.

I'm sure we have something up our sleeve anyway. :50:

I agree with this. I think he'd be an excellent signing for one of the provincial clubs in the Scottish Premiership but not for Celtic. Just now, the only players we should be looking to sign are ones who are likely to improve our performances in Europe. We've won the league anyway.

They play in League 1 mate. Going by crowd sizes and wealth i would say League 1 is a slightly better standard than the SPL. Bigger stadiums, more money, more players etc.

    I never mentioned League 2.

The standards decent in league 1 and the prices for championship players has went sky high.

I'm just going at it from the point of view that he would be one of 2 or 3 players coming in.

All i'm saying is, he's maybe inconsistent, but i like guys who are skillful with the ball at their feet. I was a bit surprised with this one myself, but that's a whole range of goals he's been scoring in a team that went down a division from the Championship.

I'm sure we do have lots of players on the agenda and i do totally agree with looking at these leagues, but i don't think League 1 is necessarily of a lower standard then most Scandinavian leagues.

I'm interested to know how you judge that Lee Tomlin is not "anywhere near good enough for Celtic", if indeed it's not just on stats.

Normally i don't quote people, but i think this point of view is shared by a lot of supporters and i don't really get why. I think it's because of the standard of player we've been linked to and this guy is a level down. Doesn't necessarily mean he can't perform at a good standard for Celtic.

I know but surely if League 1 is a higher standard than the Scottish Premiership it's implied that our league is equal in quality to (or worse than) the league below League 1. Unless the Scottish Premiership is right between League 1 & League 2 level. Doesn't matter. :smiley-laughing002:

Even the price of League 1 players has gone sky high. I like Rhodes but there's no way he was or is an £8m striker. I think £2m would go a lot further in another market.

    Fair enough. :50:
