He's our water-carrier...but a REALLY good one. As one guy said, he's our Sergio Busquets.

Altho, I can't help but feel that next season, we may start to see some box to box action from Joe.

Great addition to the side, and seems to really enjoy being here!

Not very sure about this comparison.
Personally, I think Ledley is a wee bit more creative than Lenny was.

weird comparison. I had thought he would be a Thommo type player with a good shot and box to box runs but that is not how he plays for us. The only thing in common with Lenny is he tends to play the safety first ball. To be honest he is my least favourite CM to watch but he is part of a winning MF and I wouldnt interfere with that. I think what he brings is retaining posession. Still surprised he doesnt have more to his game though.

I like the Busquets comparison, that would make Kayal the Xavi of the team and Broony would be the Iniesta, obviously with about a tenth of the technical ability but the attacking runs cutting in from the side are similar.

He was absolutely outstanding yesterday but you wouldn't notice it if you didn't look out for him, every time there was a loose ball he would win it ahead of the Rangers player, he rarely if ever lost possession, he does the simple things well, covers for people when necessary which is never noticed by people who aren't looking for it.

I've heard several of our midfielders called "the new Lenny" - but in fact we don't have a Neil Lennon type player in our squad, and we don't need one either.

Neil basically did two things very well - he broke up opposition play, and then offloaded the ball safely to the more creative players in the team. He was a player MON's own mentor, Cloughie, would have loved - because he loved players who could do a very specific job very well, allowing him to fit them into his masterplan beside other players with complementary talents.

Joe Ledley on the other hand is a type of player more like Darren Fletcher or Sergio Busquets. He is levelheaded, dependable, does not give away cheap possession, finds teammates consistently with simple passes, and can adapt himself without panicking to most situations that the game throws up. In some ways he is almost the inverse of Lenny - in that he can do pretty much everything to a pretty decent level. He is unspectacular, in the way that the foundations of your house are unspectacular.

Kayal - on the third hand - is a type more like Barry Ferguson or Joey Barton (although he is, of course, neither a hun nor a hateful wee *). But the full talents of this excellent midfielder are for another thread. Fact is, I don't believe we have even seen them yet...

i think lenny would struggle to fit in this team goals are cooming from every position and lenny was never an attacking player

I mentioned Joe in the MOTM thread, quietly effective. With Broony and Kayal he just goes about his game and you don't really notice him. Did notice though when Ki came on for Kayal, i noticed Joe putting in a couple of great challenges, almost as if he took on Kayals role !

Played well yesterday ledley, slack passing at times nothing major but he was getting forward much more and broke up the huns play on several occasions, havent been a big fan of ledleys in the past but hes certainly converted me lately, alot of thats down to king kayal aswell though, they compliment eachother well.

Very good player. Has benefitted from Kayal coming into the side and really knows what is expected of him. Unfussy, unselfish and hardworking. Puts in a tackle and keeps it nice and simple. Getting better each game he plays.

Think there is more base for comparison of Kayal than there is of Ledley. Kayal is far more reminiscent of Lenny.

Lenny views Ledley as an integral part of the MF, as a player Lenny did the simple things well, in that respect there is a similarity.

I totally agree. If Kayal is the new Lennon, out to win the ball back and use it simply but effectively, then I think Ledley is like Lambert. He takes the ball, starts attacks, links the midfield with our attack and still gets forward. I think that both players aren't too limited though and have plenty of facets to their game.

He's a strange player Ledley. It's hard to define him. He's just a very good teamplayer.

I got scalded by my cousin when he found out I got his jersey for Christmas... Idk why though because the past 3 weeks of me actually catching games I found him an enjoyment to watch. Seems to be a quality team player.

At first I was against Lennon playing 2 Central Midfielders (Kayal and Ledley, with Ki on rotation) who both you would consider defensive midfielders. But I totally agree with this, Ledley has been outstanding this season and I dont think he gets the praise he deserves!
